Guys..suggestions? I can take the hard drive out, stick it in a usb caddy and link to laptop. Anything I can do this way first to try to salvage before I reformat?Herman - MP for all!0

I think you misunderstood what I meant. I am for the re-install method, and I know it has solved countless problems in the avast forums. The mentality that I hate is this: "X is not working properly" "Uninstall it, use Y, problem solved."
aliasojo,
So you cannot boot at all? In any mode?-Scott-

No, now can't boot at all. This has just happened since selecting safe mode boot.Herman - MP for all!0

yes but it doesnt detect the ones that actually do harm it only detects ones that are older
if your running avast now you could well have some and you wouldnt know but if your happy with that its fine
i was just going by what i witnessed when testing different ones with different files0 -
I've read that the msconfig method of safe mode can leave you with a reboot loop but I am not the one to ask about this, I would have to defer to someone who knows more about it...sorry.
EDIT: Could we not make this an AV discussion thread and focus on the problems that the OP is having, it just drives it off topic...-Scott-

I would be surprised if it was Avast that caused the problem but hey I'm not one to argue0

No, I haven't but will give that a go now.I would be surprised if it was Avast that caused the problem but hey I'm not one to argue
I've just been searching online about this and there are too many people similarly affected for this NOT to have been caused by Avast.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Windows disk doesn't help. Drive spins and makes noises as if disk is loading but nothing else happens so I can't even see any screen to select repair.
If I remove the hard drive and link it to laptop via a usb caddy, can I reinstall windows that way? I can's see any other option if nothing will load normally.Herman - MP for all!0 -
