my friend is 6 months pregnant, first child, single, no job, no income support/job seeker etc. has a mortgage which is in arrears. ex partner not allowing sale of house as he wants £ first, mortgage is in negative equity too.
Baby due in April, no one to turn to except friends - most who will probably buy baby designer clothes... we are buying her nappies and essentials.
So.. any advice where to go? I know she can get child tax credits 65 a week along with 20 child allowance per week.
Any advice on what to do in regards to house or other benefits? I believe she missed that boat to sign on for job seekers many months ago and is now not eligable.
Thanks,
Worried friend.

The Shelter website has info for home owners struggling to pay their mortgage, various govt schemes to prevent repossession, plus basic rights during a relationship breakdown. AFAIK, a joint owner has to get a court order to sell the property if the other joint owner refuses to sell it.
Put her details into the Turn2us online benefit calculator which will indicate what she could be entitled to.0 -
Why hasn't she been claiming JSA up to now?0
-
when i was pregnant i was in a similar situation however i had and still have my partner but at the time he didnt live with me.
I went for income support but was turned down as i had to be 26 weeks plus before claiming so i had to sign onto JSA for 2 weeks as i was 24 weeks then
After baby came i got income support, child tax credits and child benefit ( was still living with parents so didnt claim housing and council tax benefit).0 -
