Leaking Aygo

Hi All

Just wondering if any one can help with a new car I brought(for work purpose due to the running cost), every time it rains the nearside rear passenger foot well gets wet. It has been back to the garage 3 times and still leaks. It frist went back within 6 months of buying the car does anyone Know if I am entitled to a replacement or a full refund as the car is clearly not fit for purpose. Many thanks

There's a difference between "fit for purpose" and a slight water leak.....

Leaks can be very hard to trace, BUT they should fix this!
It would help if you looked to see where the water is coming from yourself, so that you have something to tell them, rather than stand there going "umm.... it's got a water leak, but only when it rains".

BTW how does buying a new car save money?

A water leak on a new car isn't acceptable. It's up to the dealer to locate and fix the problem, even take the sceen out and replace if needed.
Light blue touchpaper and stand well back !

Thanks But tried all finding out where it is coming from, its just not good enough from a new car. Long story to buying new car I agree I would never normally do so but I got a new Job where I have to do a lot of short trips and had 2 older cars go wrong, so if you do the maths on the tax, running cost, insurance, servicing it works out and is SHOULD be problem FREE motoring.

The aygo/citroen c1/peugot107 are all the same car with slightly different trim.
Your car needs to go back under warranty, its a very common fault. Sadly, these cars are built DOWN to a price not UP to a spec. If you get to 20k with no gearbox/clutch/driveshaft replacements youve done well.

Can you try a different dealer? Once you meet a service guy who has a don't give a monkeys mindset then nothing will change that. Sadly the water leak is extremely common in Aygo/C1/107s.

Oddly enough C1 and 107 do not seem to be affected?

A good site for owner reviews is www.parkers.co.uk

Here is a snippet from a happy C1 owner...

Have you had any problems with the car?
The noise of that 3 cyclinder engine I find tiresome. Brought as a replacement for the Mini Cooper which I loved. I find it hard work on motorways. The hills where I live challenge it. Blue smoke and a horrible smell of burning Clutch plates has been know to come from under the bonnet when reversing or parking on a steep hill. Engine management warning light came on and was traced to the car needing a new Cataylitic convertor before 15000 miles and between 2-3 years old.Replaced by Citroen.Clutch Slipping Badly now into 30 months of ownership and less than 15000 miles.

    and....a chuffed Aygo owner

Have you had any problems with the car?
Carpets were wet in the back, requiring additional door seals, clutch failed, and new one now judders, passenger seat frame replaced for creaking, now drivers seat creaks, a different gear oil for crunching into 2nd gear (but still does this) steering column constantly clonks when turning right, but dealer says they can't fault it.

    and another Aygo.....

Have you had any problems with the car?
Gutted & disappointed describes how I feel about my little car. It is just coming up for being 3 years old and the faults have been - replaced spark plugs, new blow motor, new brake pads and discs, new exhaust, new water pump and to top it off I have just found out it needs a new clutch. You think I was some kind of rally driver but no, the car gets just ordinary day use. All the above has been sorted under warranty but this expires at the end of the month. After this I head into the unknown but I'm thinking what else can go wrong, surely that is it!

    another...Aygo

Have you had any problems with the car?
Yes - my clutch packed up last week, completely, without any prior warning. I was about to join a motorway and it was no fun. Despite the car still being covered by a warranty my garage tried to fob me off, claiming it to be wear and tear. Eventually they admitted that there was a defect in the clutch and fixed it for free but I found the whole experience very stressful.

    Another Citroen C1..

Have you had any problems with the car?
I purchased the C1 Vibe April 2007, within 15 months the following problems occurred; clutch was slipping, the dealership adjusted the clutch cable. Inside 2 days the clutch was slipping again. After dealership investigation the clutch was replaced due to a default in manufacturing. Returning from a holiday found liquid beneath the vehicle, the AA was called and advised not to drive the vehicle so the car was towed to the dealership. The drive shaft seals had leaked all the oil and the vehicle would have seized if driven. The clutch then began to stick when the clutch pedal was depressed; dealership replaced the cable and plastic clutch bush (sort of washer that links the cable to the clutch). The steering then made a loud rubbing noise when turned to full lock - the list goes on.

I had an Aygo for two and a half years with little to no problems, had a water leak on one time, turned out it was the rear window seal that was leaking. Other posters are right, take it to another dealer and complain to Toyota UK, they don't tend to take to kindly to their franchises not being nice.
Thanks to all the competition posters.

yeah the water leaking is very common with the aygo (not the 107 or c1 mind)

also all the facelift versions have the larger 'yaris' clutch so you will not likely be needing a new clutch at 20,000 miles (also if you get a clutch replacement on an older version they give you the yaris clutch so it won't need replacing as soon again)

other than that all 3 versions are pretty good cars, people can complin all they want that they arn't as good as a veyron but that's missing the point entirely.

    To answer your question....

No, you are not entitled to a full refund. A full refund only applies when you reject a car, and successfully defend your right to reject in court which you will never be able to do - trust me.

You are entitled to a repair, replacement or partial refund it is up to the retailer to decide which of these 3 things they do for you. Only after an unreasonable amount of attempts to repair or refusal to help any further would you be able to sue them for a partial refund, or your costs to get the car repaired somewhere else.

Is there evidence of water at the bottom of the door seals every time it rains when you open the doors?
