BT Broadband

Hi,

I am currently on Orange for BB. I had a phone call from BT today and offering me BT Broadband option 1 and Evening & Weekend calls at £5 pcm. According to BT normal price is £14 pcm and it has 10gb monthly usage.

I thought it was a good offer at £5 per month. Did not manage to ask how long the contract will be but I think it will be 18 months.

Currently have an old Orange broadband Plus which gives 2gb allowance. I'm sure I always use more than that but they never said anything. I use internet for browsing, watch videos during the weekend - will 10gb should be ok.

How is the service like with BT? and if I do go by 10gb allowance will they contact me before charging extra?

Also I am with Primus for my calls at the moment - can I still stay there or I will have to move to BT for my calls.

He also said I will get "white" BT router not the black one. Not sure what is the diff between the both.

The BT rep will call me back on friday.

not sure why they are offering the white router, but i pay about £15 a month for unlimited broadband with bt. id opt for that. it includes free calls anytime to landlines and 0845/44 numbers.
  • I'm on the £5 month 10GB broadband and free evening and weekend calls. 10GB allowance is ok if you don't do too much iplayer watching or download films etc.

There is a usage monitor on the BT site so you can see daily how you are doing. I think they inform you if you are nearing your limit but I haven't experienced that yet.

Do note there is a way around the limit - each BT router also acts as a BT wifi hotspot for public use. (i.e you can use free wifi all around the country where it is availiable) You can log onto your own BT hotspot and it doesn't count against your usage - admittedly its a slower speed but it is fine for general surfing/emails etc.

As for the orange 2GB - are you sure that is not ust the speed of you BB service. A 2 GB allowance would not go very far. Matbe orange was unlimited - my old virgin BB was.

As for black/white - I do not know the difference

The white router will be the old HomeHub 1.5, which they stopped providing (I thought) about 3 years ago!
This is wireless 'G' only-the new black HomeHub 2 is wireless 'N' (faster).
I can only assume that they have found some old stock that the are getting ridof to people on Option 1.
10GB allowance doesn't go very far if you stream or download.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Are you sure about that 0844 numbers are rarely included.
