I keep losing mine as well and 95% of mine goes out free post, but mine is mainly on the item as described.
They are always as described its just that the silly punters do not read the description any more and just read the headline.
I mean a CD with fireworks going off on it, how the hell can that not be as described?
Not to knock what you are selling but if you make these yourself then items like this will always be hit hardest for item not as described over the christmas period.
The simple reason being if a buyer bought one of these as a present for someone and then when it arrived felt that the item was not good enough to give as a present regardless of how you described the item the buyer will feel disappointed and may mark down your DSRs because of this.
If I had been selling items like this I would to protect my account start sending the items out in proper dvd cases with a printed cover and up the price slightly just over the christmas period to avoid this and keep my DSRs high you may find this is what your competitors doing to protect their DSRs or the other option would be to withdraw the items altogether over the christmas period.

All mine are in CD cases with a proper printed insert saying what is on the DVD and contents, tracks etc. They are heat shrinked as well. I cannot see what more I can do appease the customers.

Do buyers really take much notice of the star ratings anyway? I know personally I pay more attention to the number of negatve and neutral feedbacks rather than how sellers are rated on the stars.

Similiarly, i always leave feedback but quite often dont bother with the stars. i never thought they made much difference tbh.
Yes, I do take them into account. It's useful to know as a buyer what people do well in comparison to others and as a seller what is an issue with the way I'm selling.

If there is an issue with Item Description then I definitely avoid bidding because the seller is probably under- rather than overdescribing something. Sorry, but if you are falling behind on Item Description you need to look at how you word your listings. You can't just insult your customers by saying they haven't read the listing - you need to make the listing easy to read and understand.

Free P&P means 5 stars by default. The buyer has no choice. So it may be worth whacking out some cheap items with free P&P to up your average.

Not sure this is correct. I went onto live chat and asked if I gave free P & P would I be guaranteed 5 stars, and was told no, the buyer could still leave a 1 or 2 if they wanted to

Makes you wonder what the giant brains that run ebay are smoking.

Or was it the people manning live chat that were in cloud cuckoo land?

Live chat or phone, it's a lottery.

If you want the info, check their announcements or t&c.

Even with some of the drivel on these boards, they are more right than eBay staff!

We’d like to update you on the process around automated 5 stars for transactions offering free Postage & Packaging.

From October,we want to confirm that for transactions where the only shipping method offered was free shipping and where the payment was not with PayPal, the P&P DSR will be pre-filled with 5 stars. However, since eBay cannot ensure that there were no Postage & Packaging fees ultimately charged, the buyer will still be able to edit the DSR if they wish.

    Regards,
    The eBay Team

***Original: Automatic 5 star detailed seller rating for listings with free Postage & Packaging***

    06 September, 2010 | 10:16AM BST

From 6 September, transactions offering free Postage & Packaging will automatically receive 5 stars for their P&P charges detailed seller rating. To be eligible, buyers must have used eBay checkout and must have paid with PayPal. These are required to enable eBay to ensure that no Postage & Packaging fees were ultimately charged.
Sellers can take advantage of this by offering free Postage & Packaging to buyers in time for the busy Christmas period. This will help you attract more customers and get greater visibility in search results. Learn more about improving your search standing.

Buyers won't be able to change the automatic 5 star rating. Sellers can still offer additional payment methods, but only transactions paid with PayPal will be eligible to receive 5 stars for P&P charges automatically.

!New message if buyers want to leave neutral or negative feedback

From October 2010, we will display a message to buyers who are about to leave neutral or negative feedback. This message will encourage them to contact the seller to resolve any problems that may have occurred.

In addition, we are asking buyers to confirm their intention in a pop-up window before they can submit neutral or negative feedback.

    Regards,
    The eBay Team

  • what this boils down to is that no matter how hard you try, all it takes is a nutter to give you bad dsrs even if the feedback might be great.. its difficult but just get on with selling and it becomes irrelevant..

Well, after a lengthy chat (getting nowhere), I was told that the DSR relates to the sales date, not the date feedback was left. Checked this, and the date concerned, I didn't sell anything, so another theory bites the dust

That's it, nice glass of wine, and forget the whole thing. If I wanted this much stress, I'd get a proper job :D

The best way to check stars is by using item number, you need to get to a 'perfect 5' by trial and error, and then just add the one you want to find out about.
You may have to wait before you can run a report, after you have seen your stars drop.
Stars take about 24-48hrs before they show on reports.
