Me too.
I think there are a group of us who've "turned a bit schizophrenic" and are posting on both installments of this thread.
I guess the O.S. Board Guide thing emerged because a small group of people complained to them about this being a "broader" thread - well no-one forces anyone to read a particular thread. If they don't like it - then why bother to read it? Plenty of other threads around to read - so why choose to read and be affronted at the thought of O.S.'ers having a "general" thread for longstanding type concerns (as opposed to the Daily Thread - which is obviously the one for "daily doings" of the "everyday" type).0 -
I can't believe the whole topic of "on topic/off topic" is still being dragged up!
Kittie, as someone who regularly sells at carboots, and expects people to haggle me down as part of the "fun", I would say if you are really interested in something, and the price asked is too high, don't be afraid to haggle. My pet hate is people who ask the price and then just walk on because its too much - without saying anything!! I am there to sell, I want as much as possible for my things, and you want to pay a good price, lets talk about it! BEware though, it can become addictive! It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0 -

It's only being dragged up because we are all a bit paranoid about what we can and can't post. I certainly feel I have to preface anything I post with a quick explanation of why I consider it is on topic.
A propos of which, being OS and coping is so much easier if you have a fullly equipped kitchen and sewing kit. I have kept every bit of sewing thread I bought and it really brings back memories when I look at the jewel colours that were 'in' in the early 1980s. And now they are back in fashion, which was very convenient when a blouse I bought this autumn had that irritating trick of unravelling thread holding on the buttons.
I no longer have my mother's reels of thread - they perished with age, but I do have my grandmother's darning mushroom. And, yes, I also feel a connection with her when I use it. And my daughter knows she will eventually find it coming her way, probably when she clears out the house after I am gone or gaga. And I apologise to her now for buying a house with acres of cellars - we can never move from this house because I can never face clearing out the cellarsIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
:oAhem... can I join in please? Some of you might recognise me from other OS threads as I certainly recognise you. I've read some comments on how quiet it is on this thread and have been dying to join in but after reading that the thread had been transferred I thought that I'd better keep out. (I always feel like the Arms is a select little group who all know each other and don't like to take some one else's seat, you know what I mean?) Maybe it's just a silly idea that's planted itself in my daft head. Anyway I'm comfy in OS so I hope you don't mind me joining in here. I'm only posting this 'cos there may be more people lurking who are thinking the same way. Hope that I'm not barred with my first post on here.... just want to chat if that's ok:)The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

maryb I wasn't being critical, just a bit incredulous that as grown adults there's this constant need to worry about policing ourselves. The thread has been largely on topic, and its the same people who do go off topic if it does happen; they won't change their behaviour, and seem oblivious to it anyway. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

I agree Jackie but I'm still a bit paranoid. I'm a born worrier.

Oooh, and remembered I need to look out for some vintage Tupperware at the carboots this year. I've inherited two orange Harvest containers from my Mum and they knock the spots off anything modern. Plus, I love 60's and 70's colours and design and want to collect the lot! I can't stop looking at them, and as most people think they're hideous I'm hoping to find some0

Ohh yes tupperware is on my carboot shopping list too!Piglet

What???? Nobody told you guys??????
Everyone has obviously gone to Dalemain Mansion and Gardens in Cumbria for the 'World's Original Marmalade Awards'. Obviously they KNEW how good you all were with the jam pan and couldn't risk the competition!!! lol
I'm too new to do a linkie, but if you look up 'marmalade awards' it should come up. I promise you it is not a wind up, I heard about it on the news - some blinking MP (or Lord or something) won - but it WAS his mother's recipe (and therefore officially OS!).
