Have also installed a doorbell - this might seem silly to most ...
Too many blighters kept ringing it ..."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
Does anyone have any ideas on how take in a skirt? Been trying to have a go on a broken pair of trousers, but having no luck whatsoever. Looked on the net, but all i can see is instructions on how take them up.
Do you mean because it's too loose on you?
If so, you have to take off the waistband, then stitch up the sideseams to make it narrower, then replace the waistband.
Is that what you meant?
Let me know if not...:rotfl:0 -
I am browsing around different forums and thought you might find this one interesting as it is about food, straight from the horse`s mouth. Might help with advance warning re prices. Has anyone else found any interesting sites?

Car boot toys are amazingly cheap, we had OH's granddaughter coming last summer and wanted to get some toys for her to play with in the garden, we bought a little bike, a Fisherprice garage (I loved mine when I was little!) and some other bits and pieces for IIRC £12 - I couldn't believe it!
OH also likes to buy garden tools and tools generally, there are some really good quality tools around. We also bought a second portaloo for camping and some other camping bits and pieces for very little.
I think we've got about 6 weeks or so to go before ours start again, I can't wait!
I've dipped in and out of the other thread in the arms but I really enjoyed this one and all things around "it's tough".Piglet

As I've mentioned before, I have had several attempts at being OS, interspersed with epic failures and going off the rails again
Am back for good this time, and am finding being an "active" member rather than a lurker is really helping me.
Just whipped up a lovely, slightly cheaty, but very economic dinner of SP pasta, leftover cooked chicken, reheated with two spoonfuls of SP cream cheese and a teaspoon of SP pesto. Reckon it cost less than a quid and it's delish! Definitely one to repeat!
Tidied out the cleaning cupboard today, but didn't make it to cleaning out the fridge. Hey, if I do it all at once there'll be nothing left for next weekend0 -
I have never been to a carboot sale and I want to go to one now and just found various ones in the local area. I don`t know the etiquette though, do you have any tips for a carboot virgin?0

dont barter down something sold by old scruffy men to say they have a go at you is an understatement. Take your time and have a mooch, look in boxes under table as well as whats on it. Go with an open mind at what you might find too.
have a good one.0 -

Take bags with you to carry your purchases in, take change so you don't end up having to offer notes, haggle
To be honest, I don't always haggle, some things at our boot sale are so dirt cheap that I feel really bad about haggling! Having said that I bought a Wii, with controllers etc. for £35 having beat him down from £40 - it's probably over £100 worth and I felt very bad afterwards!
Kitchen stuff is cheap - usually 50p-£1 for bun tins/baking sheets etc.
I think I paid £2 or £2.50 each for my old fashioned mixing bowls (big ones)
We bought a portaloo - brand new in it's box for c. £15 - worth £50 plus.
...an animal cage for my friend's little boy's rat - really nice for £8
People really give things away at ours, it's not good for sellers at all as things really don't get their value but for buyers it's fantastic!
Do get there early though!Piglet
