I struck a bit lucky yesterday, Dad has a buddy who is a part time farmer and the guy who knows everyone and ends up with all sorts of bits and pieces of food - often lots of fish, things like dogfish which many people don't want.
Dad was seeing him yesterday so gave him instructions to tell his buddy that if he got bits of food whether it was fishy, feathery or the fluffy bunny variety that I'd be pleased to take it off his hands. Dad came back with a tray of 30 eggs! His buddy has a buddy who gives them to him, they are either the mishapen and miscoloured ones or ones that are slightly cracked.
This week we shall be mainly eating eggs! The ones I've used have been lovely, big yellow yolks and much nicer than the cheap ones I buy from the supermarket.
We're hoping that OH has a job, he's been doing some voluntary work for a local business, trying to persuade them that they really do need to employ him and [fingers very firmly crossed] it may have worked. He's waiting to find out but we're hopeful.
Would be nice to see some more posting on the thread, I miss you all!
I know what you mean, PP, this is the thread I look for when I log in and it has gotten awfully quietMaybe people are worried about being OT? Hope your DH gets the job - I'll keep my fingers crossed for him.
I have had a productive morning so far - someone from Freegle has been to pick up an old TV, vacuum cleaner and toaster, freeing up some space in the garage. The end plan is to have some shelving units in there to enable me to stockpile a bit more as my kitchen is super tiny.
Have also installed a doorbell - this might seem silly to most, but I've been without one since I moved in three years ago and have to tell people to knock on the window. So I'm over the moon with it - my amazing landlady bought it for me, on the same day she gave me money for paint, bought me an orchid and a bottle of wine, had my water fixed and reduced my rent. She really is a gem!
Got to pop to the supermarket tomorrow for milk, and if they still have sugar at 62p a kilo I'll pick some more up as I think that's one of the things which will shoot up in price soon. Today will be clearing out the cleaning cupboard and the fridge, and catching up with some card making as I have a couple of orders to get out.0 -

Hi kitschy, I think people are worried about being off topic. It's such a shame!
Well done on the doorbell, I know what you mean about not having one, we don't at the moment and as we have two front doors, nobody quite knows where to go and half the time we don't hear them anyway! Our car boot sales start soon so I'm hoping to find one one there to avoid paying a proper cost for one!Piglet

I hope you find one! I can't wait for carboot season - I'm going to take the plunge and have a stall for the first time as I have lots of little things to get rid of, and every penny counts at the moment as I could be out of work in a couple of months (probably just for a little while until the new welfare programme kicks in - God knows why they didn't start it straight after this one that I currently work on ends!).0

I love car boot sales, never thought I'd hear myself say it though! We try to avoid buying anything new, without have first spending a few weeks trying to find whatever it is at the boot sale. I've bought some really nice kitchen stuff, old fashioned mixing bowls etc. for virtually nothing. We're also building up to selling stuff for the first time, we've got lots of duplicate things from different houses and now we are both out of work every penny does count so we're going to give it a go.Piglet

Oh Piglet, the wonder which is a well-stocked boot-fair......I love them insanely much and enjoy every minute of them. Love to hunt and gather and the sheer randomness of what you might find, and the knowledge that a few quid in your pocket can see you come away with lots of useful bits. I used to keep my lil ole car on the road entirely on the proceeds of a few bootfairs a month and only gave that car up when I had to move and lifestyle changes and losing my right hand co-seller would've made it too difficult.
My bootsale wish list for the following few months is very OS; fencing wire for the lottie, haberdashery items (please, if you are standing anywhere in England at a booter beside a tabletop holding wooden reel sewing threads GET OUT OF MY WAY OR I MAY KILL YOU). Ahem. Sorry about that. And I'd love a jam-making pan, as would we all. And kilner type jars. And books. And even more books. And completely random things which I shall know I want when I see them.
Oh dear, I've come over all peculiar and may have to have a lie down and re-read The Great Declutter thread.
:T Have a great time selling stuff, Piglet, and may the sun always shine on your sales.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

oh me too. I think we are all too worried about being the one poster that gets this thread removed like the other threads. It`s my opinion that mse has shot itself in the foot over this.
Such a shame as now the tone has changed and I think there are quite a few who can no longer be bothered !!!!! doh!!! catfooting around0 -
We are all in the thread on the Arms as we can say what we like there without the OS police telling us off. I lurk here now and then but dont post, I do that on the naughty thread:beer:I have every possession I want. I have a lot of friends who have a lot more possessions. But in some cases I feel the possessions possess them, rather than the other way round0

I'd agree with starsandmoon. Also the 2 conversations are diverging somewhat.
Either that or we are all suffering the lurgy  - I have this weekend regained 3 babies (husband and 2 sons) who all have massive colds - DS2 has such a sore nose, he looks like he's been in a punch up - and he's only 9.
Off to do nursing duty. Keep taking the medicine!:DSMILE....they will wonder what you are up to...........;)0 -
Hello all
not posted on here before but i read Grey Queen's comment on wooden sewing thread reels and just to make you drool I have stacks of these. My dad used to work in a mill (now long gone) that made thread. I still have, and still use, some he brought home. Some reels are even dated (Handwritten) oldest is i think 1939. Gives me an odd but nice feeling when i use them. Lost my dad a lot of years ago and it gives me a connection with him.0 -
Been sorting through stuff, so may take the plunge and do a stall, but not sure yet. Think i may just post it on freecycle, that way it gone.
But we love carbootsales now, at first my partner hated them, now he all over them :rotfl:. Managed to get good quality tools and pc computer parts for dirt cheap. So happy days for us all!
The boys think it great, and love looking through all the toys and books. Used to go to loads whaen i was a kid, my partners would spend hours looking through them, my legs would ache.
As for the hair thing, i actually am really happy with my hair, it is literally the straightest hair in the world. My hair naturally goes into a centre parting, weird but true. Curls, no chance, wouldn't take in the slightest, once spent two days with curlers in my hair, plastic, steel, and rags, took them out and voila, the curls lasted all of five minutes, my aunts were furious. It was funny though. Until about two years ago it used to go past my backside and at one point went past my knees. The cats used to love playing with it and mades beds out of it, used to wake up with fur balls laying in it.
I just get sick now and then and chop it all off, saves on the shampoo! No doubt it'll be long again by June. Yes it does grow that fast, i chopped it in late November by late January it was past my shoulders.
Does anyone have any ideas on how take in a skirt? Been trying to have a go on a broken pair of trousers, but having no luck whatsoever. Looked on the net, but all i can see is instructions on how take them up.0
