Has anybody tried bread with non-bread flour ? can it be done ?
Yep.
If you think about it, you couldn't buy bread flour years ago, could you? I can remember baking bread at primary school with good old Homepride Plain Flour.
Unless they've changed the contents of course.
But I don't think so, as I often "top up" with Tesco value plain flour if I haven't got enough bread flour and it's always been fine...0 -

I've seen someone mention on another thread using all plain flour, but the bread flour is cheaper than the basic /value plain. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).

I have a vague recollection of someone mentioning that yes it can be done! You can add gluten (because the plain flour is lacking) by saving the water you boil your spuds in and using that to make the bread!
...or something like that, I did say it was vague:rotfl: Not sure about what it would taste like but if you run out of bread flour and are having boiled spuds I suppose its worth a try. Infact in true OS fashion next time you have spuds freeze the water and save till such an occasion arrises:DJAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

true genius - i've refused to buy any ...waaay too expensive ,but it never occured to me to use tins - ive been on piklets for years.....how silly of me - how clever of you
Have to come clean, this was someone else's idea, not mine, it was posted earlier on.
I have only ever used cardboard rings and they worked well enough for the few times I ever made crumpets. I had an uncle who owned a piklet factory (made his millions at hit) and the sight of the white mixture in buckets being sloshed around rather destroyed my love of piklets.
