Give your mobile a fake number

Had an email from a mate today telling me about this site.
It's handy if you dont want to give out your real mobile number:)

Calls charged at 50p per min but that does not really matter because you probably do not like the caller anyway:p

Quotes from site
What are Privacy Numbers?
Think of a Privacy Number as a throw away telephone number. We simply divert your chosen Privacy Number to your mobile or landline number - that way nobody knows your real number but you still receive the call.

Why should I use a Privacy Number?
Why give your real mobile number to people you don't really know when you can give them your Privacy Number instead? If you decide you no longer want them to contact you, simply disconnect your Privacy Number and connect a new one while still keeping your mobile number. Also, should you lose you mobile phone you can simply ask us to divert your Privacy Number to a different number - nobody will ever know the difference!

Can I divert a Privacy Number to my mobile?
Yes you can divert to your mobile. You can also divert to any UK landline number starting 01 or 02.

Will people know my mobile number?
Your privacy number can only be used for calling not dialling. However we do offer a similar product called privacy exchange where you can make and recive calls using the privacy exchange. Please note anonymouse or witheld calls cannot be made using privacy exchange to protect the miss use of the service your unique privacy exchange number shall always be delivered.

Will you tell anybody my real mobile number?
Absolutely not. We will never reveal your mobile number to anybody - we hold your privacy and trust above all else.

A FEW PEOPLE DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS AND THE OTHER POSTS I HAVE MADE IN THIS SECTION.
USE THE ABOVE LINK WHEN YOU WANT TO ORDER A FREEBIE OFF THE WEB OR ANYWHERE YOU THINK YOUR DETAILS WILL BE SOLD ON TO COMPANIES THEY MAY COLD CALL YOU

This is the freebie section a some of the offers require you to supply a phone number to receive your goods. A lot of companies sell on your details and then you get cold calls, They will be the ones paying 50p per min.
Why would you give the number to people you want to call you?
    :)
  • Why not just make up a number? Change a couple of digits in your own one?

yep, some people want your number, but cause you bother when you say no, just let them call you, keep them talking, their credit goes :D

by the way is this counted as a premium rate call for all callers that ring you ?

These are Personal Numbers. You can get ones that are cheaper to call.

    Code: 070 497
    Type: Mobile
    Use: Personal
    Operator: Xero 9
Tariff Band: Personal Numbers 50p (pn2) (inc VAT)
    Service: Personal

If you really want to disguise your mobile number https://www.cheapercallrate.com will allocate you a 0871 10p a minute number, for your mobile.

What happens if they have to phone you to confirm something?

I think you are missing the point of my post:confused:
It does not matter how much it cost to phone the number you are not going to keep the number forever and yes I know there are cheaper numbers that you can call out there but why make it cheaper for someone you dont want to call you in the first place:cool:
  • Oh dear. Seems you aren't as bright as you imply :p (joke). Returning the call costs you a mind-numbing amount of money.

Try googling for "privacynumbers scam". Plenty of results.

    (EDITED)

    found on another site:

The nos 070 listed are allocated to Xero 9 Limited network provider and they are premium nos........and if any mobile no is linked to any of these nos and if someone has to call u than they will have to dial these nos to get you.........so wont they end up paying premium rates?well ofcourse if you are in buisness than you can use them so that you can keep your mob no private...........its good for people who are in buisness firms..........

I don't get this at all! They won't have your number, but they WILL have a number in which they can contact you with?

I do not know why you have posted this:confused:
Why would you be calling the number you have given out?

I did Google before posting and I saw what you have posted above (you really should add it's a quote from elsewhere unless you are SolCuerda). You do not give the numbers to friends and family so why you care how much it costs to call?
    :)
