A franchise is defined as a business that is authorized to sell or distribute a company's goods or services in a particular geographic area. When you open a franchise, you own the biz and its infrastructure along with the right to use the franchising company's brand, trademarks, and promotional materials. In most cases you also own the exclusive rights to sell the product in your franchise area.
In return for these rights, the franchisee (you) agree to pay an upfront fee to the franchising company. This fee can is usually significant and covers a variety services that are provided to you by the franchising company. There is often also an ongoing franchise fee that is paid on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis.
Therefore a Kleeneze distributorship is not a franchise.:D
Yep, you are a sales agent for these companies, you are not running a business in any sense of the word. Don't get me wrong for some people it can work, but I just don't get the feeling it does for many.
Fact is that the core business model for most catalogue companies is the recruiting of agents, and selling them products/courses/etc, not the sales of products in its own right. I might even try and get the accounts figures for a few of these companies to see if there is a breakdown of profits for products sold vs recruitment.
As I mentioned these companies produce the literature and catalogues before you are an agent so that is dead money in some ways.0 -

Then surely you are lucky if you're given an area where people will buy the products. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Hi
Been reading the forums for a few months now, and now looking for ways to increase my income. I was made redundant in September and have managed to get a part-time job in a pub, but no full-time job yet.
I need something with no big outlay, and I can't do parties as I work evenings (change week to week, can't get set hours), so I'm thinking of a brochure type job.
All the companys I can find are Avon, Betterware, Kleeneze. There must be more but I can't find them!
Any others I'm missing? They have to be brochure drops (don't think Vie at home does those, only parties)
Thanks) and made a modest return.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Have you tried looking at Amway. I did this a few years ago (about twenty-five years ago
) and made a modest return.
Are they still around as I haven't seen or heard of Amway for many years. They got a bad name for themselves (pyramid selling) so I thought they'd just ceased trading. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

No, they are still going. The method they used was very far from pyramid selling.
My mistake, but it was a long time ago (must be over 30 yrs) that I heard about them and there was something not quite right with how the company operated. I am certain there was a TV programme about this.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -

I'd be skeptical.
If it was me personally I'd go for Avon0 -
Amway is one of the largest private companies in the United States, and one of the largest retailers in the world.
Both Amway UK and Avon are members of the Direct Selling Association UK
In May 2007, the UK Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) accused Amway and distributor organizations Britt WorldWide and Network TwentyOne UK of "objectionable practices" and petitioned to wind up the companies. The case against Amway was dismissed in 2008 on the condition that a full earnings disclosure is published publicly, no registration or renewal fees are charged and that the sale of business support materials are prohibited. The case against Network 21 was dismissed in 20090 -
I really dread to think.
