I can't wait for some decent warm days so I can clear out the boiler room. A friend of ours is getting divorced, so he's going back to South Africa and he's giving us a lawnmower so we need to find space to store it. I'll need a tarp to put over it in the boiler room though as the roof is like a sieve.

I persuaded OH to wash the kitchen window on Monday and the difference it has made on days with a little sun, the kitchen seems more friendly!! Got all Christmas stuff packed away too which feels a little like packing winter away! :) Am aiming to clean one window every few days now before buying paint to begin the spring clean up.

    Hi all,

I'm afraid cleaning is not my thing so my idea of getting ready for spring is going to be the garden this year.

I'm going to try and grow my own vegetables this year, I don't have any space in the garden so have decided to invest in a small walk in greenhouse that can sit on the gravel and will be growing things in pots.

This may sound daft but do you think I could keep chickens? Would love to do this, only about 3 but have no idea where/how to start or even where to get them. I have a long piece of garden at the side of the 7ft fence which currently has rubbish plants in so I want to get rid of all those and wondered if that would be suitable if wired off. Do they need to be covered over as well?

    Any tips would be appreciated.
  • I've sorted out the seed box and got all the pots and compost ready for sowing. Have at long last moved the sewing machine away from the dining table which means that everytime I get half an hour I can do some sewing - a patchwork quilt for me and OH - its got a spring/easter theme but more than likely not it will be for next year given that it took about 3 years to get the xmas one finished.

Good point - Christmas was a wash out for us so I am planning a really fun Easter for the DDs and we shall make Easter Bonnets and have a brilliant Egg hunt :) I am really looking forward to that :)

Does anyone 'blow' eggs? I have tried and failed in the past but would love to do that with the girls :) Any tips?

It's been a long time, but I seem to remember using a very fine clean sewing needle to make an air hole at the pointed end, then making a larger hole at the round end by using the needle to make a circle of tiny holes and then joining up the circle with more holes, made between the original holes (I hope this makes sense!) to the approximate size of a knitting needle. Then pierce the yolk and blow through the small air hole. I hope it works and that you enjoy the omelette.

This is a great thread :j We've had a couple of bright sunny days here which always makes me fell better and has encouraged me to go for nice long walks with the dog.

    My list so far;

    1) Carry on tidying garage out, done 4 trips to local refuse, i reckon 2 more and it should be done.

    2) Once garage done, empty loft ready for us to insulate

    3) Buy the flags and glass for greenhouse

    4) Make a start on giving conservatory a deep clean

Starting to declutter properly and have sorted ds3s' clothes. given too small ones to gds's and went through too large ones and reboxed them tidier. Found 2 nice jackets that now fit him and one or two other things. only things he really needs come spring is some new shoes and socks.
Been in the loft and sorted a few toys and passed on to gdch as ds is too old for them and dgch do not visit often enough to warrent the space they take up. I will just keep bare minimum for when they come. Loads more to do up there but I have to pace myself as my hip is only just beginning to feel better. There is a lot of bending and crawling in the eave space.
I hope to start on our room next week and see what I can get rid of in there.
  • I started something similar at the beginning of the year. A gradual Spring clean, but not because Spring is coming, more so that I keep myself busy at weekends and don't just sit on my bum watching TV and reading!

    Done so far:

    Gave kitchen a proper clean.
Hoovered and dusted upstairs thoroughly (even behind units)
    Flipped mattress
Started a car boot sale pile of stuff to sell

This weekend I'm clearing out my wardrobe, airing cupboard and built-in bedroom cupboard (full of "stuff").

Other things on my list to do over the next 2-3 months:

    Clean windows (inside & out)
    Decorate Bedroom (full revamp)
Decorate porch (just a lick of paint)
Decorate downstairs loo (just a lick of paint)
Try and clean living room carpet
Tidy garden and plant veggie seeds when frost has gone
Find more stuff for car boot
