What age to stop kids Xmas presents?

In my family presents stopped at 18 or (as someone else has also said) if you didn't get a thank you letter. Everyone gets presents in my OHs family. I'd like to stop & just buy for the kids but apparently that wouldn't go down well!
It's not the money so much as that I dont know what to buy them because of course I do all the Christmas shopping... :rolleyes:0 -
My 'Nan' (my fathers Mother) sent me a card on my 17th Birthday saying 'now you're 18 I wont be sending you any more money or presents'. Which was nice. I sent her a lovely jam set and a card/letter last Xmas, and not even a reply back. Pfft.0

It was 18 in our family for most of the aunts and uncles, but one that me and my sis are closer to than the others ( and oddly she lives the furthest away!) continued to buy for us, and we have started buying for her and the family ( my cousin does the same also). I see this particular aunt quite a bit, go to visit when i can ( approx 180 miles!),and don't just see her on family get togethers so I just look on it as buying for another friend really. I think 18 is about right really unless you are particularly close.0

well i was 21 this year and i certainly wont be expecting any prezzies from aunts or uncles, im not sure if it stopped exactly on my 18th but somewhere around there it dwindled out. i know one aunt used to buy me a big prezzie but on my 18th crimbo gave me a box of chocs. I had got her something so we carried on giving prezzies, if i hadnt she probs wouldnt have bothered again, its deciding whether they want to join in the giving of prezzies as an 'adult' or not, really. It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'

im 23 and moved out 3 years ago but my mum still spends about £30 on me at christmas. and i buy presents for my mum and dad. my aunties always give me and my sister (16) cheques, and me and my sister buy our cousins presents. my grandma gives me £25 in a card, £20 for me, £5 for my oh and we buy presents between us for my grandma and grandad. my oh's family get me one between them and i get presents for his brother and usually one between his mum and dad and my oh buys them sepeerate pressies and they usually get him something really expensive! my oh and my parents dont swap gifts coz they dont get along.
my mum and auntie and mum and grandma still swap presnts too so i guess you always get pressies in our family

I'm in my late 20s and the Christmas/birthday presents in my family have never stopped. I'd hate for them to - I like to make an effort to give my loved ones a special day!0

My brother is 24(almost) and I've just turned 21, and mum and dad still buy for us and partners!
OH and I had dinner with his parents on Sunday, and the subject of Christmas and ages came up. He will be 21 in December, and his mum said now you are 21, shouldnt we put your christmas money down.
I felt really bad for him, and know his parents will get funny when my mum & dad still buy him a nice gift.
What can you do?0 -
Past 12, if we didnt see them on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or the 27th, there were no presents. The rule in our family is if you see people on one of these three days, then a token present, otherwise - just a christmas card to that family!0

Nephew is 16 next year.
Every Christmas and birthday we've bought him gifts and he's never acknowledged them. His parents don't either and last year didn't give anything to our children.
My 5 year old son didn't even get a birthday card this year.
Sorry to say it, but I've had it now. I won't be buying them presents for their Christmas or birthdays anymore. I realise that you shouldn't give to receive but it's got to the point where it upsets me and I've other people who I'd rather spend the thought on."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
My brother was in financial trouble a few xmas ago and he came up with the children 16 and under a present, 16 and over a card only, so now he is back on his feet we have kept that- 10 under 16 in our family (that is enough outlay!!) and the over 16 a card, keep it simple, cheaper and it works. xx0
