Is there ever any need to buy a pay and display ticket?

It's Ok to ignore council PCNs [proper ones] as long as the car isn't in your name.

Not necessarily. AFAIK the reg keeper has the chance to name the person who was driving at the time if he/she wasn't the driver, then a new ticket would be issued to the named person.
Oh dear, here we go again.

Also if the driver is not named, the registered keeper is responsible for paying!

IIRC this is only for speeding not parking.

Yes, but if the registered keeper is someone that they cannot find then you're in the clear.

No, still legal [or at least not illegal].

Google is your friend for clamping stories....

There are plans to ban it....but it'll be a year or two yet [if ever]. Also I imagine there will be major loopholes in the regulations so I'm not sure we'll be any better off.

Indeed given that circumstance you would be.

I know of a work mate that got is van clamped about 2 years ago, bad move on the private clamping firm, he cut the offending clamp off and drove off lol, lucky i have a cordless angle grinder in my works van, just incase.
Only parking offence i ever got was about 3 years ago parked in a council car park and i forgot to pay and display , cost me £20 which i thought was fair , not like the cowboy private firm wanting £90 off me recently, which after advice on here i am ignoring.

As a recent convert to the doctrine of not having to pay PPC 'fines', I'm wondering why I still put money in the pay and display machine and put a ticket in my windscreen?

I'm basically a very law-abiding person, but after accidentally not buying a ticket and getting an ECP 'fine' I've learnt a lot here and on Pepipoo and I'm thinking I just won't bother any more, let them leave me a ticket which I can ignore.

So there are 2 things stopping me becoming a complete PPC outlaw. 1. would I be morally in the wrong, and 2. if they see my car cropping up regularly would they decide to pursue it to the bitter end to make an example?

How many people who understand the system actually ignore it and how many continue to pay for parking? I'd be really interested in more experienced opinions on this.

Just to clarify, personally I'd rather pay a couple of quid at the time of parking and not have the hassle, but the renegade in me keeps wanting to get out.

There is already at least one recent thread about this, a day or so ago.

Most of us would pay a couple of quid in a P&D car park (or just choose a free car park, as I always do, can't recall ever using a private car park where it cost me money).

ALL of us would ignore a private parking charge notice (bogus PCN), whatever the reason for issue.

We are not saying 'don't pay for parking' as a rule! I did say that ONCE last week on a thread where the OP had just paid Euro Car Parks £80 (EIGHTY!) smackers and was talking about setting up a direct debit to them as well! Wish I had never said it now, the written word gets misunderstood. It was ONLY said in the context of that single thread where the OP had paid a stupid amount already and was being far too trusting of a well-known player in a cowboy industry.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
