Is there ever any need to buy a pay and display ticket?

As a recent convert to the doctrine of not having to pay PPC 'fines', I'm wondering why I still put money in the pay and display machine and put a ticket in my windscreen?
I'm basically a very law-abiding person, but after accidentally not buying a ticket and getting an ECP 'fine' I've learnt a lot here and on Pepipoo and I'm thinking I just won't bother any more, let them leave me a ticket which I can ignore.
So there are 2 things stopping me becoming a complete PPC outlaw. 1. would I be morally in the wrong, and 2. if they see my car cropping up regularly would they decide to pursue it to the bitter end to make an example?
How many people who understand the system actually ignore it and how many continue to pay for parking? I'd be really interested in more experienced opinions on this.
Just to clarify, personally I'd rather pay a couple of quid at the time of parking and not have the hassle, but the renegade in me keeps wanting to get out.

As far as I know, no one condones not paying in a P&D car park.0

Did I say I did?
Just curious.Oh dear, here we go again.0 -
Keep paying the small amount asked for parking. Whilst the owner of the land is getting his income he's happy, if everyone stopped paying they may well go down other routes. We all want parking spaces and its only fair to pay, if the ppc starts getting A*sy then is the time to ignore their unwarrantable demands.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

No - I was just giving you my more experienced opinion. That's all.0 -
I believe the time will come when they stop receiving the benefits of the few who pay the charge invoices that barriers will be the only option. I don't have a problem paying for parking, its the stupid rules they make up to issue charges.0

Most pay for parking.
Some never pay.
All ignore PPC invoices.
A few ignore council/police PCNs [proper ones].Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why then you're as thick and stupid as the moderators on here - MSE ForumTeam0 -

It's Ok to ignore council PCNs [proper ones] as long as the car isn't in your name.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why then you're as thick and stupid as the moderators on here - MSE ForumTeam0
