  • I thought it was just me who gets irrate with the one light drivers!
I drove 48 miles down the motorway early one morning last year and counted 11 of them.
My other vent is boy racers with their spotlights on.
  • It's the people who leave full beams on blinding me that bother me the most althought 1 light drivers do too.
Isn't it the law that they both have to be working?

My dad had to change a headlight in my old Ka (now being driven by him) last week. As it was the dipped bulb that went, it cost him £12 for the bulb and now it seems that the whole of the front of the car has to be removed (may be a slight exaggeration)to replace the bulb. My dad is quite handy with cars but even he said he'd have to take it into the garage to be replaced.

No wonder drivers put off replacing dud bulbs. The cars are obviously designed by someone who never has to drive them.

    Halford probably do a KA.
headlights are about £5 for them to change plus cost of headlight.
Takes about 10 minutes to change if no one in the queue before you.

Aye, Stephen, Halfords do a light bulb changing service. Last year, I took my car to them (VW Polo) because I have a 'sealed unit' light fitting, which means you can't change them your self. Bloke in Halfords kindly charged me £5 to replace the bulb, from the £15.99 bulb kit I had to buy since they didn't have the lone bulb in stock!

You can imagine how pleased I was four days later when the badly fitted bulb burned out, blew up and melted the inside of the light fitting, meaning I had to take it to a mechanic and get a new fitting, which cost a further £40.00.

My bulb blew last week, less than two weeks after my MOT. I have got it booked in for a repair with my mechanic, but since I work full time, it won't be done till next week when I could get time off.

    We're not all irresponsible lazy g*ts, y'know?
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

I'm in the same boat - Vauxhall do sealed units which means that a blown bulb can't be fixed on the road. The other day I 'lost' my dipped beam and had to drive 200 miles up the M1/A1/A1(M) with either only sidelights (in heavy traffic) or main beam (in light traffic in dark sections). At one point I used my front fogs but they don't shine far enough ahead.

Took my car to the Vauxhall dealer but they can't do the work until this Friday. I reckoned that the few moments I blind drivers was better than 1) not being seen or 2) not seeing.

I check my light regularly - at least once a week - but bulbs can blow at any time, even immediately after being checked!

    Both bulbs went at once?

Having a rant here, Whats the deal with drivers(cars and vans) only having 1 head light working or not turning them on when its dark like your meant to

Even more dangerous, and I seemed to have noticed an increase in this lately, are people driving around with no working brake lamps.

Yep - third time on 18 month old car which is why it's going to dealer for 'investigation' under warranty.

A couple of years ago I was in heavy stop-start traffic behind a tall white van (inveco???) which didn't have any brake lights. He turned off at Scotch Corner and I couldn't attract his attention even though the jam lasted about 10 miles. So, I contacted the police to ask them to advise him (not to get him into any bother) and gave them the number - came back as 'no such registration number has been issued' - what was in that van?? Could scare myself silly if I thought about it long enough. The reg was very distinctive (personalised) and I wrote it down.

I drive a Volvo V50, so there's no chance me forgetting to put my lights on! I find it annoying that I have to have them on all the time, is it the law in Sweden or something? Well, it isn't the law here, yet. Still, its better than when I picked up a hire car at Schipol ariport the other evening and drove about three miles on the motorway before being flagged down by a helpful Dutch man who told me I'd forgotten to put my lights on at all......doh! It was quite interesting, when he approached the car, the first thing he said was 'Are you English?'
It will be soon. All cars and vans manufactured after Feb 2011 require daytime running lights to be fitted.

My V40 has the option to disable the DRL but it seems that this has not been carried over to the V50.
