This is already in the dailies from previous comp with different prize but the link takes us directly to new comp. I have requested a merge but don't need to worry much about disqualifying yourself as entries are allowed every 10 minutes! https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2988350

So these get merged even though the prizes are different each week?
I get that they're daily entry but as it's a different prize every week, wouldn't it be less confusing to post separately each week as the prize changes?

    Am confused....
Although the URL is the same, it's a separate competition with a separate prize and a definite end date each week.
Why has it been a) merged with an expired comp and b) moved to regs? Neither are applicable.

ETA - PM sent to Glad to "Expire" old comp in regs and unmerge the new comp back onto main board :).
Wins - Crisp 'n' Dry cookbook, Headlice treatment :rotfl:Mascara, Garden games, Model's own make-up, Thomas puzzles Mystery classic car prize...
:A Thanks to all posters :A

    Hi
the confusion around what is an ongoing comp is going to carry on until MSE Andrea posts new guidelines, one member has asked for this to be merged and one has asked for it to be unmerged and I'm as confused as anyone :o
so I'll link Andrea to this one and ask her opinion :)

until she gets back to it please can we keep it ontopic and not debate where it should be :)

    thanks Glad

  • Hi guys

I think less is more in terms of merging.

If threads are merged then they turn out not to be the same thing after all it can confuse things for everyone, so it's probably better to err on the side of caution and not merge if it's uncertain.

Perhaps OPs who post a new thread could say, "I'm posting this separately because I think the competition's different in some way to this one here.." and then link to the other similar one?

That way you're leaving it up to everyone else to decide for themselves whether they think it's the same or not but at least they've been made aware that there is potentially another competition?

    Andrea :)

  • Hi again. Opinions needed please.

It sounds like I misunderstood what the problem is earlier.

So, basically, as I understand it now, this site uses the same link every week for its competitions, just updates the page with the new one?

If that's the case, would it make sense (and be a lot less work for everyone) if whoever spots that the page has been changed to a new competition to post on the same thread and say "there's a new competition on this link"?

Can anyone envisage any problems arising from that?

  • andrea thats where the whole discussion began.
some people think comps like this one, and like the example given by amilucky here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=40668252&postcount=734
should be one thread updated regularly with the new prize details and others think its a new prize therefore a brand new comp thus should be a new thread each week. currently they are posted either as one thread or as new each week depending on what the person posting them thinks, which has led to posts being duplicated when a thread is updated with the new details but a brand new post is also made by someone else.

I comp by date posted, so it would need to be made clear when the comp was first posted that there would be more comps to come on the same thread, or I wouldn't ever see it again. If it was highlighted as a regular (eg OP stated, "multiple comps, thread will be updated weekly", or similar), I would then bookmark it (in my weeklies folder) so I'd know to check back.

For those who don't sort by title or date, sorry for bumping :o

Yes, the link is the same every week, but the prize is different.
We definitely need some guidelines to avoid confusion :)

Personally, I prefer them to be posted separately where the prize changes - I think it's less confusing, especially for people who are fairly new to the boards.

Keeping them in one (eventually very long) thread will just be confusing I think, which will end up causing more work and confusion, as people need to go to the last page to see whether the current prize is one they want to enter for.
If they just read the first few posts, they might not realise that the current prize is different to the one described on the OP.

    And, again, sorry to bump...
