3 don't piggyback off T-Mobile for 2G/voice calls. The agreement between 3 and T-Mobile is a 3G network consolidation in a joint venture where they created a company called Mobile Broadband Network Limited (MBNL) to manage and deliver the combined 3G network to the both parties. 3 retained their 50% share in this joint venture when Orange and T-Mobile merged.

Not that this helps the OP..........
  • Thanks for the advice people.

One thing is she lives in London, I go to London with work quite a lot and have no problems with my 3 Mobile, it seems the area she lives and works must have some problems.

So 'Guy Dad' we did an online check and it said the area has excellent coverage and she took my advice who often uses 3 in London. One off the reasons she got the phone was to use skype to call home, which they said in store she could. But the longest skype call she has managed before cutting out to due the reception was 2 seconds.

To deano72 its a HTC wildfire

    Thanks again

Coverage charts are a good place to start - but only for elimination purposes. In other words, if coverage is not Good/Excellent, then best not to choose that network.

But within Good/Excellent areas, the are black spots and nothing, absolutely nothing, beats testing reception out personally. The point is, you become committed to 2 years' of hell and as this is a forum for members to get advice and experience from others' problems as well as trying to help OP, I stand by that advice.

I do hope that there is some mileage for you in S0litaire's link, though.

If your friend has a problem with this, tell them to speak to Consumer Direct and they will be able to advise him/her. There are specific consumer laws relating to this and they are ...

    1. Your friend's contract with 'Three' is under the Supply of Goods and Services Act.

    2. Because he/she was not informed there was no signal in their area when they purchased the contract, they are entitled to cancel and get a full refund of any monies paid.

I know this because it happened to me. I used my phone. I made one phone call to check to see if the problem was the phone or the signal. 'Three' said this was acceptable.

    ABOUT THREE Network...long story..!!

Following a TWO hour+ conversation (more like being bounced off from one dept to another today while im using my landline to dial an 0844 no.)my three contract HAS BEEN cancelled!!

I took on a 24 months contract with three last week-15th Feb 2011 and my Iphone4 was delivered on thursday,17th Feb2011.Prior to that,i was told that coverage was perfect at my place (I'd checked postcode on their website for coverage and it came up EXCELLENT!) and ALSO,as long as you dont use the phone, you can use the simcard on another phone to test your coverage. When my phone arrived,i took the simcard out and tried it on my blackberry 9700,coverage-ZERO.

I took my BB around the house and in some corners, there was a bit of coverage.Yesterday,a friend of mine was involved in an accident and myself being the next point of contact, the hospital was apparently trying to get a hold of me and i had my phone sitting on the table infront of me for an hour. When i left my house, thats when i realised that i'd missed 18 calls from the hospital...I couldnt hack it anymore.
I phoned Three to cancel my contract due to very rubbish signal and also because i have not used their phone and im also within the 14 days colling off period..
WARNING-With three, this 14 days cooling off period is non-existent to them!...Do not go anywhere near them. They're very nice, polite to you on the phone prior to you getting a contract but the minnute you do,things get ugly!!

When i finally got through,i was told that because i had used the simcard, they wont cancel my contract!..Im like, are you having a laugh??
    1. The signal is crap!-I took my simcard from one phone to another and the signal was the same...but with my currently ending vodafone simcard, the signal-PERFECT ANYWHERE..
    2. I have not used the Iphone4 that was sent to me because,i was told originally that as long as i dont use the phone,my contract would be cancelled.
3.Im still within the 14 days cooling off period.
4.In any business, there is buying and selling...therefore, im not receiving their service and thats why im cancelling my contract.I cant pay for the service that is non-existent.

I was bounced off from one dept to another AND their numbers being 0844 and i was using my landline as using their network to phone was useless..

Two hours of going back and forth with people who dont speak english as their first language,i got fed up and i was going on about three being in breach of their contract and under the Supply of Goods And Service Act 1982,they were in breach of the law.

To cut the story short, they FINALLY agreed to cancel it and i'll get my £69 back in my account as soon as they get their iphone.
I never thought i'd say this but, they've just instilled my faith in Vodafone again. When i think about it,i have no real reason as to why i was leaving Vodafone in the first place.Im such a !!!!!

    Three.co.uk-You'll never see me again!!..
In short-they're a bunch of greedy sods!!!
