But what if my 1-2 travelcard was on my oyster card, you only swipe in on boarding a bus so the system will not know where i alight.

No it may not BUT, if a bus inspector was to get on the bus or stop you getting off before your ticket was checked and you were in any other zone other then zones 1 or 2 you would be liable to the penalty.

Also if you were trying to get on in any other zone it would beep red and the driver would ask you to pay

I have found this that states buses and trams don't use a zone system.

But that is what we have said.. No originally the Tram system went through a few zones - east Croydon being 5 Wimbledon 4 and elmers end 3 IIRC and this was shown in grey on the LUL full map with the disclaimer that you could use a zone 345 travelcard on the system or even just a 3 to get from one zone 3 to the other.
All the info is on the TFL website.
Been ages since i went south of the river to travel unless im off to the coast

A zone 1+2 travelcard is certainly not valid for buses outside zone 2. Buses have zones the same as the tubes.

No buses do NOT have the same zones as the tubes - they don't have zones at all

Years and years ago they did - and each bus stop had a little sign on it saying what zone it was in. When buses went flat fare zones were abolished, with the result that a zones 1-2 travelcard is valid on ANY bus controlled by TfL, no matter where in London it is.

If you look at a bus stop these days you won't see anything saying what zone it's in - coz it isn't in a zone

It doesn't care where you get off (or even on) - you can travel anywhere in London (on a bus) with a zone 1-2 travelcard

If the pair of you read my earlier posts correctly you would have seen that i said buses do not have zones Post #28 just in case you missed it
Buses have never been zonal from my memory it has always been - you pay for one journey even if that journey takes you all the way from zone 1 to zone 4.

I was talking about using a zonal card outside of the zones your ticket was valid for.

Now I was unaware that you could use any zonal travelcard on any zone whilst on a bus. There is a difference if you had bothered to read correctly.

now that i know this ill know for next time.

You can use a Travelcard on tubes, buses and trains, as long as the Zones on the Travelcard are the same as those you wish to travel throughout. I do believe buses have 9 Zones, as well as one tube line though, which has always confused me, as the standard zones are 1 to 6.

This is inaccurate! ANY travelcard, regardless of the zones it covers, is valid on (almost any - there are a few odd exceptions) London bus - TFL say so themselves!
