Bus passes (one day ones anyway) don't exist any more - replaced by a lower Oyster cap on bus only travel

Good the way this thread has gone off at a tangent?;)

Interesting to know that as i would imagine they would make more from the daily pass.
I know tfl really press oyster so maybe they make it up from the deopsits on cards that people can pay sometimes.

If you go into London in future either get yourself a pay as you go oystercard (£1.30 per journey or capped at £4 for buses only) or buy a zone 1+2 travelcard (if making a few journeys, £8 peak, £6.60 off peak), valid on all forms of London transport.
Cash price for the bus is £2.20 per journey.

Or you will probably find there is a one day travelcard available from wherever it is you are starting from - usually but not invariably cheaper than buying a separate travelcard when you arrive.

Is it any wonder people who don't travel to London very often get confused with the whole public transport system?

All this pay before you board mullarkey. I can understand it on a train, or tram, but why on a bus. Whats wrong with the way the rest of the country does it. Get on the bus and pay the driver....simples.

  • A zone 1+2 travelcard is certainly not valid for buses outside zone 2. Buses have zones the same as the tubes.

Bus drivers in London get attacked more often then anywhere else in the country and by forcing cash off the buses makes their job safer and also reduces the chances of theft by the driver themselves.

Buses have never been zonal from my memory it has always been - you pay for one journey even if that journey takes you all the way from zone 1 to zone 4.

But you are right that you cannot use a travelcard outside of the zones on any form of transport

I thought any travelcard was valid on any bus, i thought the zones were solely for underground and overground train services and tram services.
I always believed buses were just 1 fare regardless of journey.
    £2.20 cash
    £1.30 oyster (£4 cap)

They are. but if you had a zone 1-2 travelcard to use on the bus you would not be able to go outside of zone 2 unless you then paid the cash fare

But what if my 1-2 travelcard was on my oyster card, you only swipe in on boarding a bus so the system will not know where i alight.
