Livingthedream: "...hopefully should be an end to it all" do you mean there is a chance this will not end? as i mentioned, I paid the penalty on sopt.

As you paid, that will be the end of it. As stigy would say 'A Penalty Fare is a civil remedy for a criminal offence' ie a quick deterrant payment designed to make the 'offender' more careful in the future and to keep it out of court. The Bus company has got it's money so they will be happy and won't need to take it further.

As to appealing the PFN, you have nothing to lose in trying, all it will cost you is time and effort.

As to the info TfL have on you, I'm not too sure, but as this hasn't been prosecuted in a court, the police won't have been involved so you won't have a criminal record.

What you could do is write a letter to TfL, quoting the 'Data Protection Act 1998' asking them what information they have on you if any?

You can use a Travelcard on tubes, buses and trains, as long as the Zones on the Travelcard are the same as those you wish to travel throughout. I do believe buses have 9 Zones, as well as one tube line though, which has always confused me, as the standard zones are 1 to 6.

Buses dont have zones at all (they used to, but it was abolished years back). Any travelcard is valid on all buses that come under TfL's wing

Standard tube zones 1-6, yes. The extra ones are for the outer end of lines that used to cost extra anyway. Used to be zones ABCD IIRC

Thats right it was they just simplified it with numbers - but with the advent of them taking over the trains up to Watford they just went with the numbers to keep it easier to understand.

I was under the impression zones were zones, regardless of what transport you were on. So what if somebody has a Zones 1 to 4 Travelcard? Can they use it anywhere in London on a bus?

Stigy: what is electorol? so it will just be held in their system. do you think this can have any affect on my applications to any job?
i do not plan to do this again of course. I may even stop going to london!

sorry guys for all these questions but i am a bit worried. This is the first time this happens to me.
I meant 'Electoral' roll...Or voter's register. It will be held as a Penalty Fare in the system of the company whom the staff check details with (IRCAS deal with London Buses I believe). This data is only kept so as to form a record of any previous dealings, as this is likely to form the basis of the initial action of the Revenue Protection Staff if you comit the same offence again. It won't be shared with anyone, to the extent that IRCAS are not even allowed to divulge your personal details to the RPI on checking you out, but they have to give IRCAS the details, who will verify them for the staff. Hope that makes sense.
  • stigy you can just buy a 'buss pass' and also you can use a zone 3 ticket on a tram into zone 4 stations IIRC

I know, but what if you buy an all Zones Travelcard, is that still valid anywhere in London, on a bus?

stigy you can just buy a 'bus pass'

Bus passes (one day ones anyway) don't exist any more - replaced by a lower Oyster cap on bus only travel

Good the way this thread has gone off at a tangent?;)
