You said you run your own business.
Do you do this from home?If so you could justify your cleaner to the taxman am sure ;-)

Sorry fluff...can't claim as business is run from another site (thank goodness!). Realised running a business from home with a small baby and breastfeeding at the same time isn't very professional!!!!

I'd keep her. I don't have one and my house is overrun with mess. i work part time and have 3 kids but we also have a business so oh often out dealing with that. When I'm not at work I want to be with the kids not cleaning. If I could find a good, reliable person I would employ them like a shot!
  • Keep the cleaner I say - you've got a real gem, and good cleaners are really hard to find.
I'm sure if you looked round you'd find £22 worth of small items you don't need to ebay or put on Amazon each week? Or maybe have a yard sale to raise some specific "cleaner" money - or even do some surveys or a tad of match betting if you're comfortable with it.
In all honesty £22 to have someone help out is worth every penny. It's less than £3/day - surely you could make an additional £3/day.
I am a self employed single mum with pre-schoolers and trying to keep on top of the housework and ironing as well as everything else is really hard. I'm lucky I only have a 3-bed house of average size, but even then it's really, really hard to keep everything ship shape.
There are only 24 hours in a day, and there are far more important things to be doing then the ironing - playing with your littlies, for example, or making money - if you intend to work an extra day a week, that already means less littlie time, so to give up the cleaner and increase your workload even more doesn't seem sensible to me TBH.
As a sideline I take in ironing (I love ironing), and all the people I work for are all like you - hard working, with children, and just not enough hours in the day - help with the household chores is a necessity for many people, not a luxury.
  • I'm really surprised too!

Does this mean I can have mine back too?

    Oh Joy!!!!!!!
    de do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar ;)
  • im not allowed to have mine back until i go back to work !!! tempting ..but seeing as i am 7 months pregnant with number 3 ..and a fully established stay at home mum, i thinketh hell may have to freeze over !!!

  • Oh I'm so glad you all seem to agree and I must be honest, I feel a sense of relief as I sit here with poorly babe on knee, the washing not yet in the machine, toys not tidied, pots not washed and OH not home yet from 14 hour shift...so busy even forgot my dog today and left him at mum's then fed him twice when we did get home! Definately need help!!!

Looking for a reliable cleaner via reccomendation, I don't like these agencies:o

  • Spend your spare time with your children, not cleaning! Keep the cleaner! I have an ironing 'man' but would love to get a cleaner too - 3 young girls, I work part time, go to college, single mum............

Can I ask what people get their cleaners to do?
I cant afford one to do everything so need to work out what will benefit us the most.

Also, what hours do you have them? In one go or a bit each day?

Oh, and thanks OP for this thread...... I dont feel so bad about getting a cleaner now!
