Broadband - Best Internet provider

:rolleyes2 Hiya, (I was trying to find a picture of a sheep as I'm feeling sheepish ....)

I know this will probably sound dead simple, but I've done a search and it's all too technical for me.

We've just moved house, we had talk talk broadband (but you can't transfer it when you move as you have to go back to BT ... bizarre but true), and now have none.

Can anyone recommend the best for less at the mo. We need to do that wireless thingamy with it once we've got it, so it's got to be of reasonable speed (especially to read all MSE's!!!)

Thank you ever so much - sorry to be untechy!!!

Broadband users tend to fall into two categories; technical and non-technical. Almost by definition only a non-technical user is likely to be asking the question, so things like customer support - not normally a deal-breaker - become important.

Then it boils down to what your usage is. Speed is cheap (2-8MB is now standard, and speed is as good as your location will allow). It's usage (i.e. amount you download) which is important. Step 1 is to calculate how much you need

Then let us know what you use and I'm sure someone can help find the best for you.

I agree with your comments but why guesstimate your usage when you can easily and accurately measure it.

As an additional note to the above, if you fill in the calculator you can then click on your connection (usually the BT 2MB or BT 8MB depending on which you want).

As to whether or not a "free" modem/router is important consider
    (a) a new one costs about £40
    (b) since you presumably already have one, then a good customer service team should be able to help you set it up - if not then there are buckets of web sites to help you
    (c) they're all much the same.

Then of course, some have "free" calls included. Without looking too deeply into it, it's doubtful that this would be as good or better than you'd be able to get separately, anyway.

A perfectly good point espresso, but the guy has just moved house and doesn't have broadband at the moment, so I assume can't get this info retrospectively.

Having said that, you *might* be able to get the info out of TalkTalk (since they would almost certainly have it), but I wouldn't hold your breath.
