Strange combination of rooms !

Am I getting it right, now you are drying your washing in the kitchen? you think tumble drier is better in the kitchen than in the toilet? The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.0 -
If the room is big enough to actually hang washing in to dry, then maybe I wouldn't be so keen. We have a utility room with a loo in it but the washing doesn't hang in there (just the tumble dryer) but we built the room so our choice.
My brother lives in a house which is about 13 years old and they have a loo and washing machine room, but again they don't actually hang their washing in there to dry so never see their smalls!!0 -
Yup, I think that's the difference isn't it? If you extend and make the decision to have a room that is both big enough to dry your washing whilst spending a penny, then it's your decision. It still seems like a bit of an odd choice to make for a new build though. I appreciate that the majority of posters on this thread aren't that fussed one way or the other, but there are enough of us that do have an issue with it to make it a strange developing design choice!
Ah well, I would have happily put up with the quirky planning if our offer of 80% had been accepted - significantly more would concern me that we'd overpaid as there are other issues to it too:
1. small plot - photos do a good job of making the plot bigger
2. uninspiring lounge - very boxy & beige
3. no built in storage anywhere
4. small master for price/size of house
If any of you guys out there are bored and fancy doing a Zoopla/Mouseprice comparison - feel free !"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510 -
Plot did look small to me for size of house and patio on side in shade also seemed a bit strange. We were thinking of doing or extension in a similar way with the room going right across at the back but with a dividing wall under the main part of the house but we would have split the single story part with the folding doors leaving a kitchen breakfast room and separate large lounge with the doors closed if that makes sense?I think....0

After looking at the plan of the house ......... is the toilet in the same room as the utility room?0

yup, it really is - it's called "utility/cloakroom" on the plan"Science is a wonderful thing if one does not have to earn one's living at it" Einstein 19510

Nothing wrong with loo/laundry, size depending - but location of the room is the issue here I think. I'd move it to where the study is, it's in an insane position right now.0

eerrmmmm ..... yeah in hindsight, nope wouldnt like that, as i already described our layout in our house, our toilet is in a separate room, we just have to walk through the utility room .... but to share with the toilet is a bit much, especially when you are paying those sort of prices!
