Strange combination of rooms !

  • Definitely wouldn't bother me. I think in practice, the family would use the main bathroom, and the utility/toilet would just be for guests.

but that's my worry - I'd only ever be able to wash my best knickers in case we had unexpected guests :)

Definitely would put some people off (me for example) - I was extending my old house and looking to have a downstairs toilet - my dad thought it would work well with the washing machine in the same room, wife and I though yuk!

Why would a washing machine in a downstairs loo be yuck?
It's no more strange than having a washing machine in the kitchen, & sorting through dirty clothes in the room that you cook in. What if the washing machine were built in, and then you wouldn't have to look at it whilst sat on the loo? Is that still yuck?

OP - the house looks really nice. And I quite agree with getmoreless. The study is teeny, and would be much better as a utility, with the dining room as a study, and the dining table in the family room. I don't see why they put in the huge folding doors to the family room though. Although a new build, the family room with those doors looks like a poorly thought out extension!

For me, it's not so much about the washing machine in the same room as the loo - it's more about the drying washing in the same room as the loo.

I agree about the layout most definitely! I also think that the lounge is entirely unimpressive - it's small(ish), pretty dark and just generally very beige. Not what you'd have hoped for really.

However, saying that I would put up with all of it's "issues" for 80% os asking :rotfl:

Me too, but they'd have to also move it further north for me...do they offer that perhaps for another 5%?
  • I can't see the link?

I wouldn't have a problem with it, I know a couple of people who have this combination.

Hmmm, I think you'd have to negotiate hard on that 5%. I could ask if they could add wheels to it if you'd like? :p

My smalls going through a wash cycle while someone pops to the loo wouldn't bother me - them on display drying out in all their splendour would if that makes sense... but then I'm the sort who takes the underwear washing off the radiators if I've got guests coming around (and dries my smalls on the radiators rather than the washing line - I'm still waiting for hubby to put UP in the new place - so the neighbours don't get to see me drawers)!

I think that's the difference. If you are buying a house with benefit of a utility room, you want to be able to use it fully as a utility room. I wouldn't, for example, be happy putting another fridge or freezer in the same room as a loo.

If, however, you didn't have a utility room, and wanted to get the washing machine out of the kitchen, I can't see the problem with putting this near the loo. You would continue to dry your clothes wherever you normally dried them. :D
