Please help me understand baby car seats

What about the second stage seat for 9mnts-4years.
Are these fitted into the car or by the seat belt?
i don't have kids so fully admit i don't know what each stage means for car seats....
but I have seen several posts on here that seem to mention not going fully with what the ages say for car seats, and that it is much more important to keep babe rear facing as long as possible as it's safer? I'm sure i saw one that said keep them in first stage or rear facing seat until they are too tall/long to fit in it anymore?
as i say - i am only going off bits i have read on here.
congrats :TPlease be nice to all moneysavers!

I have recently became a mother 10th Dec and i have a Graco travel system. The carseat was easy enough to fit in my cat but after 2 weeks my back was aching from constantly leaning over changing nappies, fixing the carseat so i purchased a baby base from argos

it is soooo handy. the carseat fits in like it does on the pram and is released the same way. It was defo a good buy and if i had the maxi cosi i would consider the isofix because it really does save your back!
Hope this helps!

I don't really understand the difference between the cheap belted bases & the isofix bases.

Because the belted bases don't do anything the seats on their own don't do, or am I missing something?
Also if you do use isofix, do you need to use the seatbelt as well?0 -
isofix is really handy for the smaller baby seats, but for the bigger seats, most are just attatched in the car all the time so there's really no need for isofix then.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0

isofix attatches to the car itself doesn't it, whereas a cheaper seat base is just attatched by the seatbelt. (same as the bigger car seats are)
If I were you I'd pop to Mothercare and have one of the assistants show you exactly how they differ. They're really good and spent over an hour with us trying to get a seat to fit our car!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

So the isofix base that does stage 0 & 1, isn't worth the extra as you probably wouldn't need isofix at that stage as car seat will be fixed.
Thank you:T0 -

Yes that's it basically.
When the baby was in his maxi cosy baby seat that you can carry around with you, we used to strap him in the car using the seat belt. Was a bit of a pain, but it wasn't going to be forever.
When he was about 8 months, we got the next seat up, which is a Britax Price, and that is secured in the car at all times using the seat belt at the back of it, so when we want to put him in it, we just pop him in and fasten him in just like he's in a buggy.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

Dylan had a Maxi Cosi Mura pram/pushchair and he had the Cabrio car seat which was fab and so easy to use! I'd give it 10/10!
Go and have an afternoon out with your daughter and SIL playing with some prams, I love pram and seat shopping:D

For stage 0+ (up to 33lb so lasts longer than stage 0)

and

leave the base in the car all the time, unclick car seat from base to pushchair and vice versa.
Apparently you won't need to buy adaptors to fit the car seat the the Oyster chassis as the Britax SHR has them built inInternet earnings:
