Please help me understand baby car seats:o

You can have seat belt fix or isofix.
The benefit with isofix is that the seat is easier to slip in & out properly.
The bases are very expensive & its not practical to have a couple/few (to leave in parents & grandparents cars).

The baby seats fit onto the chassis of most prams/pushchairs

When the child is 9 months (or so), they move to the next size car seat.
When my DD was small, these were (or my DDs was) permanently fixed. Are they like this now or like the 0-9 seat belt/isofix fix?

Have you had Isofix.

The pram above can be used with
OYSTER car seat, requires LB321 adaptors
MAXI-COSI CabrioFix requires Oyster Maxi-Cosi car seat adaptors
BRITAX Baby-Safe SHR does not require adaptors

ETA, one of the isofix bases, also goes on to fit the next stage car seat as well, Maxi Cosi Familyfix Base.

Any thoughts?

I had the Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix and the isofix base for my daughter and absolutely loved it. I loved the fact that I could click the seat into the base and see at a glance that we were good and safe to go. Very handy for when it was lashing with rain lol. I know it's expensive but her car seat was the one thing that I didn't want to "compromise" on. If she went out with grandparents, I just moved the base into their car. Again, it was very quick to fit and you can see at a glance whether it is secured properly or not; the only downside to this was that the base was really heavy :(

Mrs E, have I missed a post that says you're going to be a grandma? What with this and what to call a grandmother. :)

I had the Maxi Cosi seat with the isofix base. The base definitely makes it easier to get the seat in and out of the car, and it's safer.

If you're worried about using the seat in a different car, it will still fit without the isofix base, by looping the seat-belt through the chair (e.g. for short journeys in someone else's car).

Also, the Maxi Cosi seat will fit in many many push-chairs - however, it isn't recommended to keep baby hunched up in a car seat for hours and hours at a time.

What about the second stage seat for 9mnts-4years.

Are these fitted into the car or by the seat belt?

Depends. There are various types. Take a trip to Halfords and speak to an assistant about the different options.

    Ooh!! Congratulations. :j:T
  • I also had the maxi cosi cabrio carseat with the base. My little one is nine month old now and as just gone into the stage 2 car seat which is a chico key one. I did also have a maxi cosi priori and they both fitted into the car differently. A trip to Halfords or Babies r us would help. They usually let you try it in your car to make sure it fits.
