Numbered sticker on rear view mirror - auction car?
We've just bought a car we're very pleased with, at a good price.
I noticed today that there is a small sticker on the back of the rear view mirror with a hand written 514 in green felt tip - would this be an auction number?

Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

Some car dealers number their cars to keep track of where the keys are etc.
Could easily be from auction too - most dealers buy stock from auction.0 -
Or maybe the mirror is a replacment and the spares shop indexes parts? Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0

Sloppy prep from the garage no matter what it is :rotfl:
Has that service they told you they were doing been done?0 -
Auction cars often write on the windows or windscreen itself. Any colour sticker with a number on could be a private fleet or dealer. The man without a signature.0

You can always tell when a car is originally from a car auction by looking at the service history, old receipts, etc.
I bought my last car from a used car dealer in my town. All the names and addresses on the service history were for someone living about 50 miles away. You got to think why someone from that far away would sell their old car to a garage this far way.
It's obvious that the car was put through the auction house 25 miles away.0 -

You can't ALWAYS tell - I bought my current car from a Renault main dealer 50 miles away so if you were to look at my service history you'd think the same
Then there's the one I part exchanged which was serviced about 80 miles from said dealer....0 -

This car was owned from new by the previous owner. I bought it from a used car dealer which sells old cars to a maximum of around 5K on screen price. So it's highly unlikely they came this far to trade in their old car for another old one.0 -

I regularly buy from a dealer about 40 miles from my house and part exchange my old cars.0
