Superdry's the worse. I'm a size 10/12 but I'm a large in Superdry stuff. Sometimes even the large feels a bit snug. So basically... at size 10/12 I'm too fat for their entire range "Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

The sizing system used for women's clothing in this country is meaningless really. I usually ignore it and buy the clothing item that fits, so my wardrobe has items from size 10 to 16 depending upon where I purchased them from.0

I remember seeing the size charts in the back of old catalogues from around the mid 90s. A size 8 then was a 22inch waist, 10 was 24, 12 was 26... That would make me about a 12 or possibly a 14 on occasion by the standards of my teenage years. These days I'm a 6 in some places but still a 14 in others and there are entire chains where they rarely stock my size now- Next, DP, M&S... with New Look, Oasis, Fatface, Monsoon and Gap almost there too.
Oh yeah, and in most shops I have that tight over the hips or boobs but loose at the waist problem too, despite being boy-shaped around the hips and not having a flat stomach. I thought it was just me. Perhaps they're designing around larger sizes and scaling them down but it isn't working.
Anyway, the worst vanity sizing shops have already done themselves out of my money and for now I can still take it elsewhere. After that, I suppose I'll just be internet shopping from countries that still have sensible sizing.Saving for deposit: Finished! :j

I'm so glad to find that others are having the same problems as me! I am a small woman and the trouble for me is often nothing fits from anywhere! I can only shop in certain places because others are always too long - Next for example is fine in the waist, but almost always too long even in petites, but my favourite pair of trousers is from there so I pretty much try on everything I see. I like DP but their 6 again varies with some styles too big and others too small. It makes shopping such a hassle. It is the same for men as well - hubby has the same problem in that his actual waist measurement is wildly different from what is actually labelled in the shop. Just have to try everything on and hope for the best.
Also glad to see other women have the same problem with boob fit - is it really so rare to be slender with a large bust?? I have such trouble with button down tops as they bag in the waist but hardly fit over the boobs. I'm not ready to look pregnant!!0 -
I've got a 26 inch waist but a larger chest - in New Look I struggle to wear their clothes - 10s are too big around my shoulders and waist but 8s are too tight around my chest - bizarrely, I've found that their kids range seems to cater for a larger chest! I can wear an age 12-13 from there, no problem.
I do seem to be the shape most shops cater for tbh - narrow waist but still have hips and a chest - it seems odd that most shops just cater for one body shape when there's soooo many different!
The only place I tend to find doesn't fit is Dorothy Perkins - particularly trousers as they seem to cater for big bums, and I don't have one
One thing I've always found strange is that when a skirt is in a bigger size they make it longer!0
