Just a bit of a vent really and to see if anyone else had similar problems.
Usually I buy all my jeans from Dorothy Perkins and depending on the styling I'm a size 12 or 14. My jeans were looking really tatty so just thought I would get a cheap pair to tide me over.
Went into Primark and took a size 12 and 14 to the dressing room, I couldn't even get either pair over my knee and to even get a pair to fit I would need a size 18 (cost was £8)
Went to New Look and although I could fasten a 14 it felt really uncomfortable, so would need a 16 really (cost was £10)
So I thought just as a comparison I would pop into Jane Norman, tried a pair of size 12 jeans on and they fit perfect (but cost £38)
It seems the cheaper the pair of jeans, the worse they fit. False economy really.
Has anyone else noticed a similar issue with sizing?

False economy or vanity?
Why couldn't you just buy the £8 or £10 jeans that were called 'size 16 or 18'? Did they have to have a size 12 or 14 label in them?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Personally, I'd buy the cheaper jeans and cut the size label out :T0

I ended up buying a cheap pair from Asda that fit perfectly and the material seemed better quality.
Just wondered if anyone had noticed the store variances, that was all. I don't have a problem with buying any size, just surprised at the variance between the 3 different shops.0 -
It's hardly new, shops have always varied in their sizes. I can go between three different sizes. The material and cut can make a difference.0

I bought some jeans in New Look. Fit perfectly. So as I also wanted a black pair, went back next day, got identical size and style, didn't try them on, got home and they don't fit. Went back to the store, took sizes 12/14/16 to the fitting room, 16 was far too small and the 12 fit nicely.
There's always been variations between shop sizes I just didn't expect to have it in the same shop & style!0 -
I've noticed that too. I never know what size I am really and end up taking a selection of sizes into the fitting room.
I've also noticed that clothes are not made for curvy women. I buy trousers and skirts that fit nicely on my bottom and hips, but the waistbands are always too big so I have to buy things that I can adjust.
Tops that fit nice on my bust, are sometimes baggy around my waist and look like maternity tops.
If you're looking for jeans, M&S basic bootcut jeans are really nice they wash well. They only cost £15 too. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Dorothy Perkins are overly generous I find, Next are nearly as bad. I recently bought a pair of size 10 DP jeans in a charity shop and I feel like a sack of potatoes in them once I pull a belt in tight enough:eek:
My gripe with Primark is their tops fit very differently to their bottoms - tops tend to be very big, bottoms a little small. Thankfully they have started doing more tops in a 6 so thats less of a problem, and mostly their 10s fit on the bottom.
New Look sizes are just all over the place! In the summer I bought 2 pairs of shorts, one in an 8 and one in a 12, and they were meant to be the same style just different colours!!!:rotfl:
If you want cheap clothes that are vanity sized then go to Peacocks, they are a good size or so bigger than anywhere else in that pricerange - I can buy their children's clothes:p0 -
As long as it fits does it matter what's on the label ?0

I bought a pair of jeans and a top in Top Shop a couple of years ago. The jeans are size 6 and the top is size 14. I've got a straight up-and-down figure, no curves, but the top in a size 10 wouldn't have fitted a 5 yr old! And I agree with the comments about New Look. I've got two pairs of jeans, the same style, price and brand, bought on the same day in there. The blue ones cut me in half and the black ones fall down. You literally have to try on every item to ensure that they fit. I hate clothes shopping!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0
