Of course, the other answer is don't bother busting a gut to insure it at all. If he gets caught, he'll get a slap on the wrist and a £50 pound fine. If he doesn't get caught then he's off scot free. Either way it saves you a packet.
TONGUE IN CHEEK POSTING !!!!!! It does, however, make my blood boil when us decent folk pay a fortune to stay legal whilst you hear of illegal drivers getting off with either a paltry fine or a ban which doesn't actually stop them driving. A local case recently had me doing a double-take - someone was done for, amongst other things, driving whilst disqualified. They banned him for a further 12 months !!! Like that's going to stop him !
.... and ..... deep breaths .... calm down .......0 -
Try going fully comp, its often cheaper for some reason.
Add his mum as a named driver, females can save money...my mum saved me £100 last time, never drove the car. Might be worth adding you on as a named driver as well if you have a clean license/no claims.
Sadly teenage males are going to be stuffed when it comes to insurance, I was lucky, first years insurance for a 1.2 Punto (bit chavvy!) was £996 at 18, passed my test in May this was in September.
Pass Plus is worth ago as well, I saved around £400, but heard of some people saving £1,000+.
Might be worth trying to get a quote from Admiral, then go to Bell.co.uk and then elephant.co.uk, all sister companies, and often beat each others prices. What is pi? Where did it come from?0 -
whats going on was the polo is a high risk car because its small and has a small engine and youngsters insure them a lot.
bigger car bigger engine less insurance worked every time for mehi, im 25 and had my license since may 2009 and still getting high quotes. i checked a vw polo 1.0 and it came in at £100 a month still. when i got a car in june 2009 it was a Rover 25 1.6 litre and it was £75/month. many thanks for all your replies. I cannot add him to my insurance as for my basic Mondeo adds another £3K. your thoughts on getting a larger car is worth investigating. getting either the Skoda or Ka would seriously ruin his street cred. so alternative was for sex change. He's not keen on that either.
many thanks for these and future ideas.
the quest coninues.
ps he passed his theory today. being let loose on his own becomes a step closer.......bloody scary0 -
The reason for high insurance for young drivers is because uninsured drivers get away with murder these days, its just another day for them, they should bring in a law where anyone caught without a license or insurance should be banged up for a year and never be able to drive a car again, this might bring down the cost of insurance.
You won't get away with it in certain countries...
i thinks got a lot more to do with everyone suing after accidents, the last government made some forward ground on insured cars being towed though.0 -

well those are two of choices or he pays a higher amount of car with "Street cred". Welcome him to big world where you cant always get exactly what you want and have to compromise.0 -
Wild idea, but.... try insuring an old Land Rover(series 1,2,2a,3) and go through NFU mutual. Might be a bit more reasonable."In times of universal deceit, telling the truth will be a revolutionary act. "
