car groups are a bit meaningless when the premium comes through as mentioned sometimes its cheaper to
insure a car in a higher group. Depends a lot on how likely that car is to get crashed or stolen.

Wont be long before everyones insurance is £2000+

I have 10 years+ no claims and have been getting quotes of £800 for a mondeo.

why dont they just scrap insurance and put it on petrol?
then there would be no uninsured drivers

In some parts of Australia 3rd Party insurance is included as part of the car registration fees, so basically the same thing. One less job for the police to do, and one less worry for the law abiding motorist.

To do that the Government would need to insure every car on the roads.

So when I stack my £100 car into a £100,000 Ferrari are you happy for that to come from the taxpayer?

Then of course there's the job losses in insurance

i would get your son to try fully comp quotes these are often cheaper than tpft

i would also look at quote on larger cars not smaller models

things like vectras mondeos etc they are often seen as a lower risk as they are normal family cars. anything like a corsa, 106, saxo, golf etc is always going to be savage on insurance

when i started driving i got a quote on a pugeot 205 1.4 it was around 3000 so i got a quote on a cavalier SRi and it was £700 fully comp for a first time driver.

I had a prium of £1000 for my son on a 954cc Salsa (Older than a Saxa)! Similar age Mondeo was £2500 and I couldn't get a quote for our Turbo VITO (commercial vehicle) !!!

Daughter will be 17 in a few months so please keep the thread going.

Try a classic car and a classic car insurance speciallist.

Say, an old mini, beetle, MGB, Escort etc.

You will need good breakdown cover with this option though.
