Receiving Penalty Points

Hi All,

On December 10th I was caught by an police officer driving too fast, I received a fine and I was told that I would get three penalty points.

I paid the fine two days later but as of yet I have heard nothing more above the penalty points, how are these added? I know that my licence is due for renewal at the end of February, is this when they are added?

Thanks.

You send off (or go in person) to the the local court (court fines office usually) who fined you and they will fill in the points details on your license.

Should have been info on the ticket.

If you dont do it you could be in bother so don't forget.

It was my understanding that within 14 days of receiving the points a written request is sent to you asking you to send in your licence, I'm not sure as to why this hasn't happened.

I know that when you receive a NIP through the post it gives details of where to send or take your license, when being stopped in person then you would usually deal with whatever court area that comes under.

You're license is usually filled in there and then when you attend.
  • I received a fixed penalty notice from the police officer, I produced my licence the next day at the station and it was then returned to me.

Yup, the police don't add points, it's the court that applies the "penalty". Where did you send the fine off too?

That is who will add the points to the license.

It shouldn't have been returned. It should have been retained by the police, taken to a local court for the points to be added and returned to you.

I would phone the DVLA on Monday and ask how many points you have.
  • I phoned up a paid the Clerk of petty sessions for it via Debit card.

What if the DVLA indicate that I have none?

Personally i would take the license down to the court for them to add them on.
