Hiya,
Didn't want to read and run
I'm going to start by jumping on the Sky Sports bashing bandwagon- my partner would love the sports package but it's sooooo expensive and we just can't justify it so there's no way he's having it, the foot is down on that one! How much does your OH actually watch it? If it's just for a few games of football to follow his team or something then it's probably cheaper to cancel the subscription and send him down the pub with a mate and a bit of beer money  that's what my OH does and it works out cheaper than the fortune Sky would charge for it (also it means I don't have to put up with watching it myself and pretending to be interested! )
Sounds like you need to get some more money coming in as well as making your current outgoings cheaper. Do you have any old CDs/DVDs/games lying around that you could sell? CeX and Music Magpie offer cash for old stuff like that and if you're not using them (like if you've converted all your CDs to mp3) or unlikely to play/watch/listen to them again then you may as well sell them.
As well as doing the comparison site thing for bills you can also ring them and if you're nice about it you can normally haggle a bit on price. We have Sky and managed to get £10 off a month by phoning and explaining that we'd seen an offer on the TV for new subscribers to get what we've got for a lot less and we didn't think it was fair they were looking after the new customers more than the current ones, wasn't nasty about it or anything, just explained politely and they knocked the price down...you don't lose anything by trying- don't ask, don't get!
Best of luck with it all,

Hi cattyboo, I do agree with the sky thing but we have literally just taken the package out in last few weeks! Will be stuck with it for a while but will try and get it down/cancelled asap. Thanks for the suggestions re cd's we have quite a few knocking around that we never listen to so will get them sold. I also have some old vinyl that someone may want so will look into that too. Got a letter from BT today, after 3 years with them and numerous calls to cancel our package (which was totalling £100-£120pm) they had finally agreed to cancel last week. However received a letter today stating they wanted £67 in early termination charges. Long story short-I called up, was firm but nice with the operator and requested a manager call back which came a few minutes later and managed to get all outstanding charges waived. One less thing to worry about!! x0

Sky are devious- you can upgrade online but you have to ring to downgrade.0
