Older Nissans yes but the newer ones are a result of Nissan being in bed with Renault. Customer service is rubbish, I wouldn't go near a Nissan or Renault.

this is not a new one, also i never really understand people blaming renualt for bad customer service at nissan dealers, as they are franchsises

I find it funny how people say that the nissans are reliable as they are a jap company, but then when one goes wrong thats thrown out of the window and its all renaults fault

Compare Nissan's reliability against that of Renault's. Since they 'merged' Renault's reliability has increased while Nissan's has decreased.

When I mentioned customer service, I was referring to Nissan GB Ltd who we've had direct dealings with and they couldn't have cared less about customer satisfaction or their reputation.

    .

    Spot on, I agree 100%.

    Renault just dragged Nissan down.

    Hi all,

I have a nissan Almera 03, I was overtaking another car and all of the sudden the engine stalled and wouldn't start. It nearly killed me.
When I phoned Nissan they said my car is not included in the recall.
Apparently it's the timing chain and fixing it would coast more than £700.
I'll never buy a Nissan again and will do my best to convince friends & relatives to do the same.

if the timing belt or chain goes then it will have the same effect on any car, the engine will stop working correctly.
dont buy a vauxhall either as they have a habit of chains breaking or tensioner giving up.
get a car with a timing belt, then you can get it changed at or before its service interval, rather than as most folk do just assume because your engine has a chain its indestructable,as so many people on here tell us chains are not the best way to go.
    ...work permit granted!

Does the problem of stretched timing chain also applies to 1.6 or 1.8 petrol engine fitted to Almera Tino?
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

    nissan customer services

THE MORE PEOPLE THAT PHONE CUSTOMER SERVICES TO COMPLAIN ABOUT TIMING CHAIN THE MORE CHANCE THERE DO SOMETHINK ABOUT IT BECAUSE AS FAR AS CUSTOMER SERVICES R AWARE THERES NO PROBLEM WITH TIMING CHAIN SO THEY WONT ISSUE A RECALL

    Hi all,
I replaced timing chain on my Nissan Almera last year. Now I'm having the same problem again! Took my car to Nissan garage they said the timing chain streched again.
They said it'll cost me £1500-£1700 to fix. The car is not worth that much.
I wish Nissan would do the honourable thing and fix their defective timing chain. I googled it and many people are having
    exactly the same problem.
We need to get organised and force Nissan to fix their own problem.
I'll give their customer services on 01923 899999. I'm sure they'll tell me I'm the first person to have reported, just like they said to me last year!
I'll also report this to watchdog.
    Thanks all.

Don't always assume that it is the timing chain, My 1.5 S Almera has done 90,000 and the chain is still OK, recently checked. Many people have issues with timing chain if their car hasn't had regular servicing. Oil change is a must. I've heard of Primera taxis doing 200,000 before chain needs looking at.

My car was juddering during acceleration, could also tell engine was misfiring by standing behind the car and looking at the exhaust. Engine warning management light came on. Got a local garage (no charge) to plug in to the ECM and code supplied showed that a coil wasn't working. I then sorted myself and I'm no mechanical genius. This isn't an expensive problem to fix.

You can check this out yourself without booking in to a garage by taking of the connector to the coils and listening to the engine. Start your car then open the bonnet. The four coils sit on top of the main section of the engine, visible when you open the bonnet up. Just press the release button behind the coil where the connector is attached, if the engine starts to drop then the coil works OK if there is no change to the engine then you can tell that there is no charge/power etc being generated by the coil. Take a ratchet spanner etc and then remove the small screw holding the coil in place sits in front of the coil, pull the coil out. Takes about 30 seconds to check a coil and remove if faulty. Then buy a new one on e-bay, can pick one up for around £25. Don't purchase from Nissan or local shop as probably charge you £70+ for a coil.

Replace the coil or coils. You will then need to take to a garage to reset the engine warning light, 60 second job. A small independent would do this for a few pounds or even free considering the time it takes.

Nissan will likely charge around £60 for diagnostic test, then £80 for coil plus labour. So could be around £200 when you can sort it easily for £25. Get a Haynes manual out of the library or do a search on google to see a diagram of an Almera engine to see where the coils are if you are unsure.
