  • Hi nassime1 unfortunately I cannot say that I am surprised. Nissan say that it is caused by extending the interval between oil changes ie not changing it frequently enough for the type of driving you do. You are now faced with a hefty repair bill 1000+ if you go with Nissan or around 480 if you go local. I can reccommend the garage that did mine unfortunately means a trip up to Scotland! PM me if you want the info.

One of the problems encoutered with this type of fault is that often the sensors are fine even though they say they are faulty, unfortunately it is the nature of the fault with the timing chain. The only sure way to say if it is the timing chain from what I have been told is to check the tensioner if it is protruding more than the recommended ammount then it needs timing chain etc.Post your query on

    It is more pain
Now the car does not start at all
  • Naz try checking spark plugs if they are coated in oil there will be no contact so engine will not start. After that I have no idea but I think you need a good "back street" garage ASAP.

  • Hi,

I am facing similar issue. My Nissan Almera is giving trouble. Few months back Engine management light came. I took it to Nissan dealer, servicing was due, so I got it done and told about the light. The light went off after they changed the spark plugs. So they didn't bother to check it. After 15-20 day light came again. I took it back to them. They checked it and it came up with P0300. since then the light has been coming on and off. I have observed that after rain or humid weather this light appears and it goes off when it is warm and sunny.

Nissan dealer is saying it could be some problem with the timing chain, but to check this they need to measure the chain length which will cost me more than £250 and more than £1000 if it is chain defect. I got it checked by another local mechanic, he suspects it is something to do with ignition coil.

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Regards,
    Atul

    Hi all,

I have a nissan Almera 03, I was overtaking another car and all of the sudden the engine stalled and wouldn't start. It nearly killed me.
When I phoned Nissan they said my car is not included in the recall.
Apparently it's the timing chain and fixing it would coast more than £700.
I'll never buy a Nissan again and will do my best to convince friends & relatives to do the same.
  • ive been told over and over again on this site that nissans dont go wrong?

Older Nissans yes but the newer ones are a result of Nissan being in bed with Renault. Customer service is rubbish, I wouldn't go near a Nissan or Renault.
