Just wondering why people don't still use towelling nappies instead of disposable. When my kids were little there was no way I could have afforded disposable nappies.

They are really expensive and buying a couple of dozen towelling nappies would be one less expense to worry about.

But actually there is a large out lay at the start and when you have very little money you simply may not have the money to start with.
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!

You say that both the benefits and wages weren't there on Tuesday - do you mean they weren't received or do you mean they were swallowed up by an overdraft or something else? I can believe that employers and the DWP can mess up their payment processes but both on the same time is unlucky/unlikely - is it a bank processing problem at your bank? Were the funds ever received or were they received and withdrawn, for example?

Have you spoken to your bank, HMRC about the tax credits or has your partner spoken to their employer? You posted that neither of you had received the wages and benefits you expected on Friday about a problem that occurred 4 working days earlier so while I understand the need for a crisis loan, I wonder what actions were taken to identify and resolve the original problem(s) that prevented you from receiving somewhere in the region of £1000 or more that day.

To the OP - contact Womens Aid for advice and support. Domestic abuse isn't just about physical violence but about being pressurised, experiencing financial and psychological violence, being controlled and blamed. You are experiencing hardship, not just because of the crisis loan refusal, but because your partner appears to enjoy your discomfort which he sees as self-inflicted and the forum members believe could have been resolved without your going hungry and your son soiled.

Perhaps your partner has decided to punish you in ways that don't leave bruises?

That's true. How much would 24 towelling nappies be these days?

Just checked...you can buy them online for 11.99 a dozen. Surely you'd easily pay around that for a pack of disposables?
  • I didn't say there was meant to be money on Tuesday.

I said 'something has gone wrong' in terms of the fact that we have run out of money way before we normally would. The only change has been that WTC, CB and JSA were paid a few days early because of the bank holidays.

I never said I was due around £1000...I'm confused by your post.

    credit card bill. £0.00
    overdraft £0.00
    Help from the state £0.00
  • As for the DV...to be honest I don't know anymore. Things have been like this for so long that I can't tell what's reasonable and what's not.
  • if the OP has a DV to his name, i suspect he is using psycological abuse now, hence your not going to ask the CTB repayments to be lowered because he has said this to you possibly.

a man who sticks his family through deprivation and wont let YOU get any help in lowering the payments is purely beyond me. i'm male 3 children and wouldnt think of dishing all my money to an over payment i know could be paid off at a lower rate.

OP the DV is a starter to get out of there, the door is open for the Social services to come in with DV cases at anytime, the SS is primarily there to protect your child not you, if anything happens again, and you go back to him, they have suffciant grounds for a care order to gain guardianship of your child, because you will then be subjecting your child to that enviroment. dont mean to scare you but my friend has had dealings with SS. and not even through DV.

DV is NEVER EVER reasonable but when you are caught up in it sometimes it is really hard to see the wood for the trees, just because you are used to it doesn't make it right.
