Do you really have no family on either side nor friends who could loan a few pounds until Tuesday? It's terrible to be in this situation and surely friends and family should be the people who should be there to help.

, I have gone without for two days now and am starving hungry but I need to ensure my little boy has food first, of course.
Are you able to list exactly what ingredients you have in your house?
    Freezer/fridge/storecupboards.
    *SIGH*

  • urrg sorry I think I am a little on the defensive for not being able to provide for my child sorry!

I didn't understand what you meant, the two word response confused me. So sorry!
  • I know I could ask a few friends but I have had to ask so often before that I would rather sell something of value. I do have things, I could pawn my engagement ring or my laptop.
  • As DX2 has said social services.
They can give you Tesco vouchers to buy food

    No shame in it!

  • My partner won't allow me to change the Council Tax repayments...it's a bit complicated but it basically boils down to it being my fault that we are so much in arrears, and any suggestion I have of changing or lowering the payments is met with forceful refusal.

That statement makes me wonder if everything is OK with your relationship...

If he is seeing his partner literally not have anything to eat for several days to make a point, then I wonder what else is going on.

Ring your local social services emergency telephone number, explain what is happening and ask for advice. They should have a list of foodbanks, possibly access to some vouchers, etc

I thought exactly the same thing :(
Doesn't matter whose 'fault' the council tax arrears are - you are a team together, with a child to provide for - and that needs to be taken into account. Even if it were just a smaller repayment spread over another month or two - that would help you ensure that you have food, diapers, utilities till the end of the pay month.

I hope you get some help from either social services or one of the foodbanks in the link above -it's only a few days, and even those of us not on benefits - many are just a pay cheque away from being in the same position. Eat the pride and get the help when you need it. If nobody used the services when they needed them, they wouldn't exist - good luck :)

Your partner sounds like a bit of a t*t to be honest, what job does he do?

"You went down with all the receipts" ?? To the Job Centre ??

But Crisis Loans are dealt with on the phone. You get the yes/no decision over the phone. You're only asked to attend the Job Centre if the decision is yes and you have to collect a giro ... or it's your third recent crisis loan application & they want to interview you to establish why you're making repeated applications.

Your circumstances in themselves don't prevent you from applying. But Social Fund never refuse an application from those with children without a damn good reason. And they'll give you that reason too.

You've got the right to ask for a review of this decision, reviews are normally carried out within 2 working days ... by which point Tuesday has come & there's no need for the Crisis Loan anyway.

I'm not saying that your account of what happened today is untrue. But there's something not quite right about this, I'm unsure whether you've simply had a bad decision or you haven't told us something relevant.
