  • Nothing on the horizon for me this week yet. Should hear about my voluntary work sometime next week though. I didn't find one thing to apply for last week at all :(

Totally agree Steph. Oh well it was nice to start a Monday with a moan! :D I feel quite positive this week, did my garden at the weekend and didn't really do the constant job searching like usual. It was nice to have a bit of time off (although I'm not quite finished yet as daughter has asked me to dig her a vegetable patch!). Does Stew's job start today? Have we got any interviews this week? I'm supposed to have one on Wed but it's at least an hour and a half away and it's a job I don't feel that I would like! I'm undecided about going yet.

I'm not sure, I don't think he said did he?
That's quite far to travel! I've just got the one this morning, and the agency one Saturday. Both are just for casual work. I'm trying to get as much casual work as I can I think and try and find something permanent to start September.

If I learned anything from the whole credit control job I messed up it would be to go with your gut instinct! If you don't feel its for you than that's it, decision made. Life is too short to be miserable.

I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with an agency wanting your bank details upfront, but having to pay for my own CRB check would make me walk away too. If charities can foot the cost, an agency can do so too! After all, the CRB isn't for our benefit, it's for their peace of mind. We know we're not dodgy, if they want to prove it, they should pay for that reference.

Hope we get some more good news this week. Good luck everyone. :)

I'm about to go to my 4 days of working this week, maybe 5. I'm starting to get some money in now, so I'm happy, apart from being extremely tired, hardly slept as my throat felt like it was gonna close up - think I've got tonsilitus got white spots on my tonsils, had it for about 2 weeks now, but haven't had the chance to go doctors! I'm going to go to the drop in centre after work. I thought it went, but it's back (probably never went!)

I feel too tired to go to work! But I'll have to keep myself awake lol. (hope I don't fall asleep on the tube)

Right another week is upon us.

Am I the only one who wakes up full of energy and enthusiasm but within 5 minutes of looking at the same cleaning and telemarketing jobs it just drains away.

  • Morning all. A funpacked day for me - signing on this morning and interview this afternoon. I really not sure about the job though, the pay isn't brilliant and its quite a long way from where I live so I would need a car which I don't have at the moment (my mum has kindly offered to contribute towards a car if I take her shopping occasionally though - aren't mum's great). The job is with a charity and I think I would really enjoy it. I'm really, really nervous, I hate goint to sign on and I'm starting to hate interviews as I really don't know where I am going wrong and what I can do better.

Regarding CRBs. My last job was at the NHS and I had responsibility for arranging CRBs for members of staff. There is tons of paperwork with each one but most of it is how to fill the form in, what forms of ID you need etc. But please be careful. CRBs are not generally transferable, i.e. anyone coming to work for us already employed by the NHS but in a different area had to have a new CRB as it was classed as working for a different company. This could work out really expensive if you are going from agency to agency especially if they don't find you any work.

Anyway good luck to everyone this week.
  • Good morning everyone! Got a call about a job at 8.30 this morning so at least I have a lot of prep to do this week, to keep my mind off how I did at the interviews.

I have also missed out something basic, turning everything on my CV into a question and writing out a clear concise answer! I didn't do it because I know my own CV, right? Well, this is my danger area for going off topic, as of course, there are things on there not relevant to the job applied for. So if I can shut down this line of inquiry, I can keep that interview focused on the job applied for, and also avoid putting my foot in it with a ramble.

    So this week:
Concise answers to every question about my CV
    One complete company profile
Three top ten things I know about thee particular skill areas to choose from at interview

Onwards and upwards, good luck everyone this week :)

    Morning everyone.

I haven't been on here in awhile. Last week got a bit too much for me and I needed some time out. I'm glad to see some of you had success. Lets hope the success continues throughout this week :)
