Support Each Other In Looking For Work?

Well, after spending literally all of yesterday until 11pm crying about this job I went this morning. I told a couple of the girls that work there how I feel and they said if I'm going to leave its better to do it now than a month down the line when they wont have time to train someone else up. Then, I took a phone call and put it through to the manager and he had a go at me! I just thought this really isn't worth it. I went through and explained and we both agreed it wasn't really for me. The thing is, they expected me to know everything about the job overnight, and it was never going to happen when I have never done the job before.
I'm going to ring the job centre now but I bet I can't claim anything.
I've messed everything up!
Hi Lexilex. I still lurk on this forum as it was my lifeline for a few months, so I just had to reply to you! I can honestly say the support and advise given by others on here, lifted my spirits and confidence no end! Have you seen the thread I created? It was to "confess" that I gave my new job up after only one day and I felt absolutely awful about it - if you get to the end you will see that I found the job I'm in now straight after and I'm very happy! Its not perfect (salary not great!) but its exactly what I wanted at the moment and the best thing is I get up in the morning looking forward to going to work!
Feel proud that you were strong enough to leave and know that you made the right decision, as something fantastic is round the corner for you!
I'm going to carry on lurking (and butting in occasionally!) as I look forward to reading about yours and others successes! Good luck xx0 -
I haven't posted all week, here's an update as to what's been happening...
A month ago, one of the great/decent recruitment agents sent me an email about an opportunity that she thought I would be interested in, I read the job spec and I could see I was more than capable of doing the job, there are also some aspects to the role which I haven't had experience in but I felt fairly confident that I could do that also, I think new challenges are a good thing.
I hadn't heard any thing back with regards to this role a fortnight later so I did something pretty cheeky....I emailed the HR department of this company my CV and a covering email, bad I know but I was VERY interested in the role! I got a reply from HR advising they alreay have my details via the recruitment agency and that they would advise the recruitment agency if they want to interview me.
Last week, the recruitment agency told me I was select for an interview. Over the last weekend I swatted up and practiced my answers until I was exhausted, I went for the interview a few days ago and it went really wellit was fairly informal, but we had a great discussion about what's expected from the person who would get the role, the company is pretty difficult to sum up but the interviewer said I did an excellent job of understanding what they did (it's medical related... I'm from property). I was there for over an hour and I even got a tour of the office!
at the interview I was told there would be a second interview (boo!) and they would tell the agency if I was successful by early next week.
Well, today, I was contacted by the agency advising that I was selected for a second interview which will take place the middle of next week. The recruitment agent said, out of all the candidates she put forward I got the best feedback, I would hope that's true but of course she could also say the same thing about anyone else being selected for a second interview.
Now... I'm trying to keep it together! Eeek! this role is perfect, it's the right direction I want to go in, the company is growing, there's lots of responsibilities, it meets my salary expectations and more importantly, it's PERMENANT and FULL TIME!0 -
Best of luck with second interview next week Superly Vince, sounds like you deserve the job with all the work you have put into it so far. Did the agency give you any tips as to what extra might be discussed at the second interview? Would be nice to know so you could do some more preparation.0

Thank you, I will find that topic now. I'm so glad I am not alone! I still feel in such a daze about it all, I can't believe I actually did it. I woke up with a huge smile on my face this morning and I know I did the right thing.
I'm more determined than ever to find something now. I emailed every school in my city yesterday asking if there were any teaching assistant vacancies coming up soon, had a few replies and most of them are keeping my cv on file. I'm really panicking about finding something else. It's easy to say I would rather have no money than be unhappy at work but in real life, it is going to be a massive struggle.0 -
Confused today, have to tailor another CV and do a detailed list of previous projects. However, I am just worn out. You know when you can hardly even see your CV anymore. Feels like my plans are getting messy. It is the tailored CVs I think, you start losing track.
I was so focussed before! I think I have too many job apps on the go.0 -
I always thought my CV was quite good, but now i'm starting to wonder. I have only heard back from one job I applied for in the last 4 weeks and it was a rejection. No one else has even bothered to give me a thanks or no thanks e mail.
Does anyone know any good links to examples of CVs ?'If honour were profitable, every man would be honourable' Thomas More

How is it laid out at the moment?
I have my profile (about me), key achievements, technical skills, then personal skills. Page two has my employment history.
This format makes it much easier to tweak individual sections without an entire rewrite, and you can slowly keep what gets a reaction and dismiss what doesn't.
I have found looking at other peoples CVs on Linked In occasionally helpful.0 -
I feel the same about my CV. I thought that it was fine but now I'm getting paranoid that maybe it could be better. I have sent it off for my advisor to have a look at so hopefully she will be able to offer me some advice on improving it.0

I have my name/address etc as a header, then my date of birth under the heading 'personal information' but thats all I have under that and I feel it seems a bit pointless.
Then my educational info, then employment history, then activities and interests. I read somewhere that unless you are a graduate you shouldnt put educational info first, but I was always told that was the way to do it.
I also don't have any sort of personal statement type thing cos I wouldnt have a clue what to put on it. Blowing my own trumpet is not my style lol.'If honour were profitable, every man would be honourable' Thomas More
