My car failed its MOT on emissions -
I was advised to use v power or high octane unleaded as it is 'cleaner' and having been using it for about 9 / 10 motnhs and this hasn't helped.
There is no smoke or obvious discharge and the car is old but
is there anything else I can do to prevent this happening again.

How about using some fuel-treatment every now and then in the tank?0

Yeah try putting some redex in it and thrashing it up the motorway in 3rd...
How have you been driving it for 9 months without MOT?0 -
No FGS its MOT is due on wed and its in for a pre MOT check, they have said it will fail on emissions.
Oh and its fully insured and taxed.
What is wrong with some of you people.
Can't you just be helpful for once. No wonder these boards aren't getting a good reputation.:beer:0 -
what a rude person
you've asked for advice, people are not obliged to give it
you said failed. past tense0 -
could be the cat or o2 sensor packing up
i wouldnt reccomend running a car on super unleaded unless its designed to run on that extra octane.
i have a switch on my car to select weather im using 99 octane or 95 octane i always use 95 as i dont want to pay the extra for super0 -
Its not rude its exasperation.
The only few times i've read this board people asking for help / advice have been goaded, mocked and generally had people posting for entertainment value nothing of help at all.
If someone's not sure of the context all they have to do is ask.
Anyway i've had it here.:beer:0 -

Thankyou for a helpful post.:beer:0 -
the context was that your car failed its mot and then that you had been driving it for 9 months
so most people would have assumed that your car failed its mot!
now we know that its hasnt failed then you might get some help once you have calmed down0 -
Don't let the door hit you on the way out Cyril.
You're welcome for the advice I gave you one minute after you posted by the way.0 -
While an "Italian tune-up" can work wonders, the details of the emissions fail would be handy to work out what is wrong with the car.0
