iPhone App to Track Spending
Comments

An iPhone is probably extravagant in some peoples eyes, but for some of us they are not just a "status symbol"... they are actually a very critical tool! I can access all my mail accounts on it, I can update my business FB page, I can do a lot of things on the move in less time than I ever could with any other phone I've had and obviously I can check up on MSE if needed
I can access places like Amazon and Ebay and Paypal and even my bank account!
As it happens I didn't pay for the handset - Vodafone gave it to me for free due to some network problems I spent a long time getting them to admit to... - and my tariff hasn't gone up hugely either - again I already had £30 a month going on that because of business commitments. So for me then yes a GOOD money saving app (MSE or not) would be great!
I guess the critical question would be: What should a money saving app include/do?
(BTW I'm sure there are no current plans to do an MSE tool - but you never know! Maybe if we can give Martin & Co some geniune ideas it might be considered?

I don't think the iPhone is a 'silly device' at all, it helps me keep up to date with work emails and all manner of things, and all for £15.00 per month PAYG. Oh, and I was lucky enough to have mine given to me by my brother, so I had no initial outlay either. I would love an app that would allow me to track what I'm spending....2013 NSD challenge 3/10

Mine was also given to me and only costs me £10 a month on PAYG and that includes free internet. Day Bank is worth a look for anyone that is looking for a simple app as you can try it for free. It also allows you to add more than one account so I have added my sealed pot to it (quite impressed by the amount I have in there already) and I also keep a running total of what is in purse as well, which I can honestly say has stopped me spending willy nilly.Don't Judge anyone until you've walked a mile in their shoes......Proud to be dealing with my debts - LBM 29/07/2010 = Debt at LBM £8,412.93[STRIKE]£5267.50[/STRIKE] £3740.84 left
, dealing with it one day at a time and no longer alone.
Planning to be well on the way to being debt free by my 40th  - 03/10/20120 -
I'm using CashTracker - it's really good. Lets you set up your own categories and gives you a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly review.
You can also set a budget for each category so you can see what percentage of it you've spent.
There is a lite version, but I soon upgraded to the paid one - I think it was £1.79.
(By the way, I bought my iPhone and it's on a £35/month tarriff, but then I'm not in debt, it's very useful for all sorts of work and fun related things and I love it. Not everyone on this site has debt, some of us just want to spend what we have more wisely.)0 -
I really recommend Accounts (and accounts free)
You can actually see IN ADVANCE how much you'll be needing in the future, whether you'll have money for a cheeky purchase, or well, not.0 -
I'm also hoping that I can turn mine into a business tool when I need to go freelance soon (being make redundant in a couple of months).
Sure, to some people they are pretensious, to me it's becoming invaluable. Email, skype video calling (Sign Language interpreter in training so this is becoming vital) or FaceTime to other iPhone users on WiFi. No other phone on the market at the moment could have given me that.
Like I said before, sure, it was a silly purchase at the time but one I do not regret.
As for apps, I've got awesomenote set up with my DDs by their date and record my spending there. I sync it with Evernote and keep track of it on my macbook pro (A gift from my parents when I started uni the second time - before someone piles in about how there are much cheaper laptops on the market...)Can we pretend that aeroplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, cause I could really use a wish right now...0 -
Ive downloaded home budget app; its a bit of a pain to set it all up but works quite good.. has lots of americanisms though which you can change
I love my iphone; it costs me £35 a month but like others have said, I can access all my email accounts, ebay, amazon, fb, check my account balance etc and even get MSN's off my mum who lives in the USA... fantastic!0 -
On py ipod touch, a luxury when I was in employment. I have a spendometer, very basic but easy to use. Using btfon, and my PAYG phone there is not much I missout on. I think, mind you you don't know what you don't know.:think:0

OK got iPhone subsidised from work, not in debt, and well if I'm honest really, really wanted one!!!:D
The app I love is called 'spendometer', its free and not very difficult to set up. You set your weekly or monthly budget and just log what you spend in different categories. It gives you a speedo to show if you are spending more than your average a day, its a nice little app for little spends, so the choccy bar from the vending machine or lunch from work... etc
Its also got a night out setting so you give yourself a limit and mark down what you've spent, not got the courage to use that yet, normally just take out the money at the begining of the night and when its gone its gone!
For full on budget I just use 'My budget' it links to a website so you can get your information on the web as well.
