Really?
Where does it say that? 0 -

It is a difficult decision to make - usually "roadside" does the job but if you are miles and miles from home then "recovery is the one that want.
In my own case, I drive a car with little value so I take the view that if I have a serious breakdown miles away, then I get the car towed to the nearest garage and then just scrap it! but everyone makes their own choices."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Just a thought, but if you have a warranty on your car check to see if it includes an assist packageSealed Pot Challenge member #982

My vote is for Auto Aid - annual premium is £38, if you break down you can call them and they will send a local recovery company, or you can call one directly yourself. You pay the recovery company there and then and then claim it back from Auto Aid.
This is only suitable for people able to cover the cost initially (I have an empty credit card or unused cheap overdraft for this).
My head gasket gave up on the M1 last year, 60 miles from home. Auto Aid sent a local truck within the hour and as they happened to not accept card payments, Auto Aid agreed to be billed by them directly, so I never even had to pay at all!
Feedback I've read says they reimburse pretty quickly in normal circumstances.
I would say, if you are going to be travelling more than half an hour from home, always have cover that will get you home without extra charges or messing about - my Dad broke down recently and wasn't covered all the way home (it was only 30 miles!?) it was going to cost him an extra £140! He had to faff about getting a mate to come out and tow him from where his cover stopped, not worth the hassle in my opinion.0
