Car breakdown cover

Hi,

I am looking into getting a car breakdown cover. I will be travelling on long distance once a week (a 2 hour journey each way). I was wondering if there are any companies you would recommend or whether it is even worth getting a cover?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

  • Is that the only driving you will be doing?
my advice is ALWAYS get breakdown cover, RAC have a good deal on at the moment.

Check out Quidco and Topcashback for deals. I change my breakdown supplier every year to take advantage of the best deals going. TBH I have not noticed any difference in service from any of the major breakdown suppliers.

Thanks for your advice. Yes the only driving away from home. RAC have vehicle cover for £28. Is that a good deal?

Yes but do it through one of the cashback sites and you will get £20 or more cashback!

Thanks! I'm not very familar with Quidco. Does this mean that I will get £20 back on RAC roadside cover, thus it will cost me £8 (Original Price £28):

You will get £22 from topcashback. Do someone on MSE a favour and take an invite from someone on the referrers board as both you and the referrer will get £5 when you join as well as the cashback. The cashback will take a couple of months to arrive. Read up on cashback sites on MSE - particularly about clearing the cookies.

I have found no difference between the service of the main breakdown cover firms so the question of "best" really comes down to cost of buying.

NO not in your case its not. What happens if you break down 2 hours away from home? They will only recover you for 10 miles then charge you per mile for anything over.

Yes, this is important but the Op is looking at "roadside" for £28 or so which only gives a tow to the nearest garage if it can't be fixed roadside. All singing and dancing recovery cover costs a lot more.
