Mondeo 2.5 V6 Auto box problem, anyone help??

Have just bought a 2.5 V6 Mondeo (T reg) and if you accelerate, the revs just go up and it does not change gear (or at least it does, but it takes ages and ages). The only way I have found to make it change quicker, is to ease off the gas, and it seems to then change up. I know these boxes are notorious, but was wondering if anyone had had this particular problem, and if so, did you cure it and how?

start simple, is the oil clean and levels correct? dont forget to check the level with the engine running.0

Get it checked out by a member of https://www.fedauto.co.uk
As bungle has said get the gearbox oil level check and replaced. Sounds as though the valve body is worn and needs replacement. The man without a signature.0 -

Problem with auto's people assume they are sealed for life and never get the fluid/filters changes.
Yes they need serviciing. SHOCK!!!
Mate bought a top spec granada scorpio for £100 started but no drive. Was going to break it for parts
but checked the fluid, None... Topped up and it ran sweetly, Slight weep on the oil cooler hose.
Fixed that and sold it 2 weeks later for £900.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

About 10 years ago I had this problem on a 1970's Daimler. Apparently it was just a quick adjustment to the brake bands to solve it. I suppose auto boxes have moved on since those old three-speeds, though.0 -

Isn't that how they're supposed to work?
Every auto box I've driven, the harder you keep the pedal down, the longer it goes before changing up..
As mentioned, a service wouldn't go amiss,0 -

The autobox on my Audi does not have a fluid filter change on the service schedule so they are "officially" maintenance free.
Of course I ignored that nonsense and got the fluid and filter changed last year.0 -

Autoboxes are quoted as maintenance free by the manufacturers because they don't repair them - they prefer charging for a whole replacement of £3k-£10k.The man without a signature.0 -
I once read in a mag yrs ago that you should treat autobox oil more importantly than engine oil, they really don't like running on anything even remotely contaminated, and change yearly.˙ʇuıɹdllɐɯs ǝɥʇ pɐǝɹ sʎɐʍlɐ
