Mondeo 2.5 V6 Auto box problem, anyone help??

How many people know that autoboxes have filters? Usually not a simple job of unscrew it
and replace. Normally you have to remove the sump of the autobox to access them.
The 5 speed auto on the mondeo's do not have a proper way for the average motorist to check the fluid level.
Needs the box plugging in with sensors for temperature. Enforces the opinion that they are sealed units.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Cheers for all the replies. I have checked the fluid level, and all seems fine there (if a little too much fluid if anything) so I will give it a fluid change, to see if that does any good. Anyone done on on the Mondeo before, is it particually hard, or is it a nice simple job that will take under an hour on the drive??“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

If the fluid is pink and feels oily to the touch its probably fine. If its brown and smells burnt then I'd change it. Fluid isn't cheap!
If you're changing the fluid, you really should change the filters too - but they're not easy to get to (in the sump).
I'd take it to a decent autobox repair firm and get them to have a look. Last time I had an autobox problem, my local repair guy sorted it for about £90 which I thought was a bargain!

Take it to a auto specialist they willd rop teh sump pan off and change the oil properly. A lot of
oil will still be left in the torque converter and pipework/cooler.
You need to go through a set dequence to check for the correct oil level, Usually needs a good drive to get
the oil hot not just a trip around the block a good few miles.
With the engine ticking over you need to move the lever through all positions several times to ensure the fluid
has circulated fully. Then when checking the fluid some boxes need the engine running whilst in park or neutral
and others need the engine to be off.
The specialists have very large funnels to catch everything when they undo/remove the sump. Also catches
anything that falls out that shouldnt be there or that should not fall out.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
