    You 100% sure of that?

I've always heard it nulls your insurance

I'll repost this in case you missed it

Did you know that not having car tax invalidates your motor insurance?

A lot of people don’t realise that if they ‘forget’ to renew their road tax when it runs out – or don’t purchase it at all – then their car insurance is null and void. If they are involved in an accident while untaxed, then they will essentially be uninsured and will be subject to all the consequences as described above. Even if they have been paying their car insurance, it won’t make any difference – you’re still guilty of committing a criminal offence.

Your statement is wrong and the website you quote from is very wrong, it's shocking that website has not corrected their miss information. We had a MSE member last year who spammed MSE with links to the website. I sent them an email pointing out to them they were wrong and providing links to websites that proved they were wrong. Actual websites that are factually correct eg Ombudsman and FSA. It shows the type of website they are if they have not corrected it after probably 9 months

    I stand corrected then

I was always under the impression no tax = no insurance

Yes and the new law will be hard on those who are trying to do right thing it wont stop those who dont care about the law and will drive with no tax, no insurance

It's already like that. Some one here went through a red light in a stolen car with false plates and killed someone. So they stuck a red light camera up.

Well that is not going to stop someone in a stolen car from not going through the red light.

Thanks, thought as much. Insurance on my other car runs out tomorrow so a bit of a hassle. think I will risk it.....
you seen the amount of big brother ANPR cameras on the road? i wouldn't risk it unless its just a mile or 2 and you can travel on back roads.

Cant you book it into an MOT at the nearest garage, then at least you have an excuse to be driving part of the way? (Or if it is only 15 mins away, ask the garage to deliver it on their trade plates, not too much to ask)

That is a very silly thing to do

    No tax =

    No valid M.O.T
    No insurance.

You'll be as illegal as a joy rider my friend

I thought no tax = possible on the spot fine and nothing else which is worth the risk. Id have thought if i coudl provide proof that I had just bought the car and was on my way to the tax office, I would get away with it....(if caught in the 15 minute drive which is unlikely)
If you are buying from a dealer, do they not have an offer of seven days free insurance. The cover note is e-mailed to them, they print it off and tax the car on your behalf.

Get the car dealer to tax it using his traders policy. If it's a trader you are buying from.
A dealer can only do that if it they are the registered keeper.

Interesting but conflicting advise. Ill phone my trader in the morning and see what he can do. If nought iv a decision to make as I need to get my own car to him tomorrow.
Ask them if they offer seven days free insurance, very few dealers don't offer it these days.
