Sorry, but the answer to both your questions is 'no'.

Perhaps delay picking up your car until you have the insurance documentation and have had the opportunity to buy the tax disc.

Thanks, thought as much. Insurance on my other car runs out tomorrow so a bit of a hassle. think I will risk it.....

    wealdroam is spot on

A vehicle cannot be driven on the road without displaying an in date VED disc

There are exceptions when you've bought online but it hasn't arrived, but you must have purchased the disc before the current one expires - That doesn't include you i'm afraid

    No tax = No drive

I was able to download my insurance documents by logging into the account that I had to set up when taking out the insurance.

My own printed certificate was fine for getting the tax with.

That is a very silly thing to do

    No tax =

    No valid M.O.T
    No insurance.

Can you please provide a citation for that bold statement.
    Thanks.

I thought no tax = possible on the spot fine and nothing else which is worth the risk. Id have thought if i coudl provide proof that I had just bought the car and was on my way to the tax office, I would get away with it....(if caught in the 15 minute drive which is unlikely)

Did you know that not having car tax invalidates your motor insurance?

A lot of people don’t realise that if they ‘forget’ to renew their road tax when it runs out – or don’t purchase it at all – then their car insurance is null and void. If they are involved in an accident while untaxed, then they will essentially be uninsured and will be subject to all the consequences as described above. Even if they have been paying their car insurance, it won’t make any difference – you’re still guilty of committing a criminal offence.

  • I had this problem this week, but with a moped - I walked it the 3miles home rather than risk riding it without tax! I was able to print some info off from my email about the insurance, and while the post office assistant initially insisted it was not acceptable, I calmly and quitely refused to leave, so soon had my tax disk!

Ignore the above, it is completly wrong.

Not having a valid VED does NOT invalidate a MOT
Not having a valid VED does NOT invalidate your insurance
