Its called being in business !!!!!!. Did you really expect them to give you market value?

I can't believe someone honestly has to ask this.

And a 4x4 with fuel at £1.32 a litre for diesel is a bit of a lemon and most dealers don't want to touch them with a barge pole.

But his car is in demand, the salesman told him when he bought it.

11k for a Fiesta PEX seems high. I suspect anyone willing to pay that sort of money for that type of car would look at something else than a fiesta. Whilst it may be worth that the dealer probably knows fine they wont shift it quickly and it will cost them more to shift than the "profit"

To say the OP has the name 'theguru' they don't have much knowledge of how buying and selling cars work.

OP I suggest you google "cost to change" then you'll learn that the offer for your car is one half of the equation. Discount on the new car is VERY important to balance the cost to change and for a Fiesta this discount should be 20% minimum - if they offer low for your trade in up this to 30%. Be as bullish as them.

You need something more economical.. There is the answer. So many people are doing just that anything
that does less than 50 - 60 mpg gets hammered at part ex time.
If you sold it just as they forecast snow you may have been luckier but not much.

    I would totally disagree.

Cost to change is hammered by dealers like AC who want to hide an overpriced car or crap trade in.

    Its about value for money.

What are you getting for your car. Is this fair?
What does your new car cost. Is this fair?
The answer to both should be yes.
You may find a slight bit of trade of between the two but cost to change should not be used as the key mechanism.

You normally find dealers talking about cost to change on all these old corsa hire cars and similar in the hope you dont notice your paying top whack for a rallied hire car.

But once you take a fair trade in price from a fair new price you end up with a cost to change! The whole deal must be taken in the round.

Fair price for my car £5,000
Fair Cost of new car £10,000

    Cost to change £5,000.

If I'm offered £3,000 for my car and the new car is negotiated to a reduced cost of £8,000 leaving a balance of £5,000 have I been ripped off on the trade in as I'm no longer getting a 'fair' price for it?

Give us some details on your trade in and we can work back from there to see if its a fair price.

    Year, miles, engine, model, colour

Depends if the dealer can shift it in fairness. I wouldn't spend £11k on a Fiesta that's for sure

If they are in so much demand why are you selling?

Who said their trade in was a fiesta? Unless they've started making 4WD fiestas?;)

Where did he say it was a fiesta he was trading in???

Have you ever seen a 4WD fiesta?
