ive never fed a big meal after about 7 at night0

Mine has dried food down all the time and unless something is added she never overeats. Her weight only goes up if she has been having too many treats. The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T0

Well last night wasn't a great success. Last feed was at 7pm and he was up and raring to go half the night.
Previously he's always just fed at 9.30 ish, gone into the garden for a wee then straight back into bed (his choice) where he'd happily stay until morning. I think he was happy going to bed on a full tum. As he got fed at 7 ish and walked around 8 last night, I think his food had worn off and he was feeling the empty tummy feeling. He was whining at the door and I ended up taking him out at 2am as he just wasn't settling. He wasn't even too interested in toileting, he just wanted to play!
I couldn't free feed btw, he's a pig with his food. Another lab we know ate his way through a 10kg food sack and even although he was being sick, he continued eating. He had to spend some time at the vet's for that episode. I'd love a dog who would just eat what he needed then stop, but Harley isn't it, lol.
Will push his feeds back further today and try that.
Lovely pics btw.0 -
My rott gets his food weighed out (well we have a container that hold the weight ) it gets put down at 7.30 am and he eats it when he is hungry. It seems to work out at 7.30am, about 1pm he will go back for some more and again about 6pm with his last walk being at 9pm.He is ideal size and weight according to the vet and the petshop whom we visit regularly. They have fallen in love with him and have adopted him as their shop mascot:)Paul Walker , in my dreams;)0

One of ours free feed really well. She finds whole meals a bit heavy going. The other though is like the 10kg sack eater. Its hard managing dogs with different requirements, they both have to make some compromises.0 -
We free feed our dog. Even though he's a lab he's not greedy and does well on this. He's very lean and muscular, and although this won't work for alot of dogs works perfectly for him.lostinrates wrote: »One of ours free feed really well. She finds whole meals a bit heavy going. We would (and did) free feed Annie - but Tix eats everything in sight so we had to stop. Poor Annie still doesn't understand why she has to eat all her food in one go, and tries to wander off after a few mouthfuls, but Tix (especially since he got sick) will just dive inWe've now separated them at feeding time so Annie can have some peace and if she's really not bothered we put her bowl away and then 'sneak' her into the kitchen a couple of hours later to let her finish
TBH - when Tix goes (hopefully not just yet) we will go back to free feeding Annie.
zebidee - could you try feeding breakfast an hour later, skip lunch, feed tea an hour earlier and leave supper where it is for now? then maybe slowly (by 10 minutes a week?) make supper earlier so Harley gets used to it? Maybe it wasn't the 'empty tummy' that had him up and about but the change in routine in itself IYKWIM - he's used to that bit of attention at 9.30/10pm and was a bit unsettled?
Bless him - he'll get used to it (hopefully)Six months we've been feeding ours at 6pm instead of 5pm and Tix still goes and sits by the door at about 4.45 :rotfl:

My 3 are fed a large meal at 9 am and a smaller one at 6pm, they start pacing round me from 5pm onwards!!
Suits them fine, but I guess it is what they are used to2 angels in heaven :A0 -
Harley is back to having seriously runny, mucous-y type poohs again so obviously the change is affecting him negatively. He's doing a lot of pacing too at the moment and smells absolutely awful so I think he may have a tummy ache or two. He hasn't had bother in months so I'm disappointed this has kicked off again now.
We're going back to the 4 smaller meals a day. He was fine on that regime for a fair length of time and we only wanted to change it to make it easier for us but clearly the change just isn't suiting him and his needs are more important than our preferences so hopefully he will settle down again without the need for a vet visit and more tablets.0 -
Sorry to hear Harley's poorly again - it was worth a try though.
I know if mutt gets stressed it can trigger an attack, so perhaps the overnight prowling was what did for him in the end.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
